1899 PNC Holder? MS 66

I'm having trouble getting clear pics through the holder. It keeps glaring.

I hate to say it like this, but with one of these basement slabbers there is no expectation that the coin is even Uncirculated, nor can the originality of the surfaces be trusted.

Break it out of the slab to image it. That slab is worthless, and shouldn't even be a part of a resale.

I Dremel them myself. It's quite possible (probable even) that your slab isn't permanently-sealed. You can likely pry the two halves apart. If it is sealed, wrap a layer of duct tape over the part covering the coin to contain cracked pieces, and rap it on the side up by the label with a hammer, with the opposite side on a hard surface. Start light and build up until you get it to crack.

Well, what I can see seems nice, but those images are far too small to even consider a concrete opinion. An image where the coin is smaller than 500 pixels in diameter just isn't large enough for an accurate guess, even though there are plenty who will render such guesses. That's a disservice to the original poster.

My wife fixed the pictures. We are trying to get the hang of uploading the photo's.

OK, that's much better. It's conceivable that this is a Mint State coin - the reeding looks nice and sharp - but the largest obverse pic seems to show what could be the barest amount of wear. That might also be a function of the lighting.

Best case, either way, is this coin *might* make MS64. This is a pricey issue in Mint State, but at 64 you're only looking at a $300 value. Probably half that or a little less in AU58.

And there's still the originality of the surfaces to consider, although I see no evidence to make me doubt that.

So this has to be your judgment, considering your current investment in the coin.

I might end up just breaking even on this one. I paid 225, but I will send it to NGC hoping for the best.
