You do not need to link an account to paypal. You only need to if you want the cash. If you are going to turn around and use your paypal funds to make purchases then it is not neccessary.

@errorone2012, I first joined ebay in june 1997 when ebay was a excellent site. Sometime around 2004 I opened a ebay coin store that required paypal payments only... Long story short, in April 2006 both my ebay and paypal accounts were hacked into, including locking me out of my account. My only way to contact them was via telephone, and that's when I was advised the hackers had used my credit cards and also accessed my personal bank account... After a 30 day account freeze, I was done with them because paypal REQUIRES a bank account number on file and I will never enter that information again anywhere on the internet...

Broken-coin And there in lies the problem . People don't understand how vulnerable they become when they give their bank information . Guess I'll just stay off ebay as a seller .

There is a point, even if you are not selling, that if your aggregate transactions crossed a threshhold they require a bank account. I think it is $10,000.

From 1997 to the time I set up the ebay store, I had exceeded the $10,000 limit and paypal needed my bank account info to transfer funds and pay their fees... This was close to seven years ago and I have not paid any attention since then on both ebay and paypal's changes. [I know what I experienced and will never trust their sites again]

middross From your link it says : In the US, a Verified member has either added and confirmed a bank account with PayPal or received approval for a PayPal Plus credit card I don't want a paypal credit card - how the heck do I get my money if not sent to a bank account ? I'm really confused now

I'm really confused now Like I said before, if you actually want the cash then you must get verified. If however, you are simply going to use the money towards other ebay purchases, then the verification process is not needed. As soon as you verify your emailaddress, you can start accepting payments into your paypal account, and in turn you can use those funds for purchases. You cannot however have those funds turn into cash without going through the verification process.

This is another option if you intend on selling but are hesitant to link it to your account. There are plenty of low or no fee bank accounts out there.

I have a bank account just for PayPal no credit cards just a debit card I keep almost zero balance in it. I have a PayPal debit card as well and use this to pay ebay fees from my PayPal balance. It gives 1.5% cash back so it helps offset costs. Last year however I was required to place a card on file with at least $2000 available. I got the idea that ebay now requires the option to automatically debt your account/card for any disputes. I thought long and hard about closing my account Instead I got a credit card issued from my PayPal bank account with a fixed credit limit of $2000. I figure visa credit protection would cover me in case of fraud. And the only people who have the number are PayPal/eBay. I am pretty sure that a regular seller will not have to do this I think its because my sales volume this year jumped form a couple of hundred dollars a year to over $10,000 https://goccf.com/t/119013

The other option would be to find an ebay seller to act for you. There used to be people here and there that did it for a fee. But you probably know some collectors who would do it for you. It is a bit of work though, so while it might work for a coin or two, it might be imposing to do it regularly.

I've been selling on E-Bay since 1991 and only once did someone claim an item was not received. I find that when selling stamps and coins, buyers are honest. PayPal and ebay sales are high, but the services are convenient.
