Numismedia shows $240 for VF grade if I'm looking at the right coin.

you are looking at the right coin

IMHO your coin is bordering a VF35 to a possible entry level XF with regards to the details in the obverse relief...i dont see much wear on her high points and the reverse is not flat at all

however, a TPG might ding the grade for the rim issues, as slight as they are...I have an 1886 Dime by NGC with an AU Details Grade - Rim Damage...this is because of one chip at 3:00 that showed on both sides of the coin...clean AU unmolested surfaces with gorgeous details on all the devices yet a lousy "details" grade...hence my lack of faith in TPGs and all that they represent outside of authentication...

I think your coin is awesome and worth an easy $350 bill...i would gamble the slab and send it...

....and there you find why your coin received a Details grade. Generally, rim dings won't garner Details if they're visible on only one face, but a ding visible from both faces usually will.

I'd throw this one at a TPG. It compares favorably with other XF issues, and Heritage hasn't offered an XF "With Drapery" example since 2007....

It has a shot at grading clean. There may be some minor surface issues, a touch of corrosion around the stars, plus the rim problems but neither are severe.

This VF25 piece brought $397 last fall. Yours could too.

NGC liked it. I'll post the slab when I get it back.

Very nice! The coin looks a bit white for a coin so old and in such a grade. I will guess they gave it the benefit of a doubt and called it EF-45.

Another borderline VF-XF. It has attributes that would put it in either grade. I will say NGC graded it VF-35. It looks like it has some wear going down the leg near the foot that will keep it from XF. At least that's my opinion. It's a nice coin.

I think it qualifies as EF-40 (NGC says XF) and I'd bet the myriad tiny nicks visible in the large photos are mostly unnoticeable in-hand.

Did you give it a precautionary acetone rinse before sending it in? I don't really see any PVC in the photos but it seems like a reasonable step to take when submitting relatively high-value coins.

A good point about the acetone, but no I just dusted it off with a Q-tip.

Here's the link to the NGC grading results.
