After a second look at your posted images, I have changed my mind about the earlier grade that I assigned to this coin. I now see the coin as firmly FINE. I did not see the partial E in the motto on the first viewing. It is interesting to me that other members of the forum assign the coin a grade of VF. In my own opinion and it is just that, an opinion of a non-expert, the coin does not meet the standards of VF in that the word LIBERTY and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST are neither strong nor are the words E PLURIBUS UNUM fully strong on the reverse with the E being only partially visible. If the E were stronger, I would grade the reverse as VF.

Only an opinion, and according to the USMC.................

It will go fine.10 and possibly Fine.15. That's a good year to have, and the first year.

My original thought was VF-20 and then I reassessed after reading Roderick's post. I can see someone calling it a F-15. However, there is a VF-25 coin for sale on Harry Laibstain's website that is very close to this one. Based on a comparison of hat coin, I am sticking to my original VF-20. I'd be happy with that coin in my collection.

I don't think this one will make VF. F15 for me.

No criticism at anyone intended, but looking back at this thread, does anyone else feel the later responses were influenced by an early, authoritatively-voiced opinion?
And, congrats BrickellCat!

My response wasn't. I was basing it off my own Trade dollar graded VF-30 by NGC and by another one for sale. This coin was nice but I think NGC gave it a generous grade. I'm not saying this to put down this coin because I like it. They just seem to be a little inconsistent lately.

Nice coin, I missed it when you posted it. I first always look at the coin as the page scrolls down, before reading and letting others comments influence me. I was at VF and self debated whether or not it would get a details grade due to an old cleaning, decided it would probably not, as the coin has sufficently aged with nice patina to be passsed off as wear at VF. I don't know that I would have gone 35 points though maybe 25 but congrats that's a great looking coin!

fikret:
Your coin is a fake, not to mention it's a bad fake.
Date looks all wrong. Wrong details and all.
Trade dollars are THE most heavily faked silver coin in the world.

Also, just a heads-up: next time, start a new thread for a new topic.
