thanks CB for the link.

That coin looks as if it were dipped, or cleaned in some way.

While the pictures are poor, and the coin might still be a decent grade, that is a serious purchase. If I was out to purchase a mint state 1948 dollar, I would want to see it with my own eyes first, or if from a major auction house, have someone I trust be my eyes for me. This is where coin shows will never replace the internet auctions..

Also, the the 1948 dollar is not a scarce coin. It is what I call a "money coin", all it takes is money to buy one. It is easy to pass on this one, for all the reasons stated here before, and that it is not that hard to find one - if you really want one.

However, if that was a mint state 1887 Victorian 25-cent, or a mint state 1906 small crown 25-cent or a mint state 1889 10-cent or a mint state NFLD 1873 5-cent in those photos, cleaned or not, in a basement slab or not, you can bet that some heavy hitters in the collecting community would take notice...

Assuming it did not originate with centsles, why would anyone risk putting it in an NNC slab?

Heck, if it did come from centsles, why would they risk the massive discount their suspect grading causes? Put it in PGCS and auction it.

It makes no sense, unless it is impaired.

You'd be better off buying this one from a seller in B.C.

if you had a 48 dollar in this grade or value it just logical to have it in a pcgs or ICCS TPG
