" CAVEAT EMPTOR " - Buyer Beware :(

Anyone who's been around this hobby / business for a while will recommend that you " Buy the coin, not the package... "

If you don't know this already, you should...

I suggest that anyone buying a coin in ICCS slip critically examine it just the same as you would a raw coin... don't take it for granted that the grade printed on the slip is to be accepted without question...

Just because a coin is "in" an ICCS slip does not necessarily mean it is the same coin that once-upon-a-time went to ICCS for grading...

There are unfortunately far too many ICCS look-alike slips floating around out there... it's very simple to take the printed card out of an ICCS slip, then use that 1934 25 Cent MS62 card with an inferior coin, seal it in another plastic pouch, and then seal it into another slip...

There's no special sealing process or marker to the creation of the slips that is unique to ICCS only... and there's nothing at all special about the makeup of either the outer plastic slip or inner plastic pouch to distinguish them as genuine... they are pretty generic materials to either find similar product or replicate.

It does happen, quite infrequently though.Let's hope that's not the case here, and better photos will clear things up.
When I first saw this coin on ebay I thought AU58,cleaned and set the snipe accordingly.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

For the record, I bought the coin raw from a dealer as an MS-60 (paid $280 for it), sent it to ICCS and it came back MS-62. Definitely wasn't switched from the holder!

Why would you remove it from the ICCS holder and list it on ebay in a 2x2?

I would think you'd get more money selling it in the ICCS holder.

I bought the coin years ago. I used to have my coins graded by ICCS, and then put them back in 2x2s - don't ask me why.

Edit: Wasn't saying you don't have permission to ask me why. I was saying don't ask me why that was my practice back then, because I don't know!

Hey now, alright so enough of asking questions before this gets ugly,

Take it out of the 2x2 for better pictures as said by shaft

Yes the coin was taken out of a ICCS-MS62 holder for a different storage purpose.

Thank you everybody for your responses they have all been helpful

Reset the camera, and it's working again, thank God!

Nothing fancy here, coin removed from 2x2, took two pictures of each side - one with flash, one without flash.

Cleaned AU-58.

Too many hairlines and there is some wear on the high points.

jg,

With all due respect... :)

Your history on this coin just doesn't add up...maybe you've mixed up the story about this coin with another one...

There's absolutely no way that this coin could have ever been submitted to ICCS and returned as MS-62 grade... maybe another less reputable 3rd party grader but not ICCS...

This coin at best exhibits AU-55 details and shows definite signs of having been lightly polished on the obverse side...

Well guys, thanks for your input. I truly hadn't even noticed the hairlines on it until I posted these pictures, and now I do see them. They are few and faint, but they are there.

However, the history on the coin is what it is. I've only ever owned two 1934s, this one, and the one that I replaced it with (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251250097862). I'm going to leave the auction as is, and if the buyer is not satisfied, I will send it back in to ICCS for a new opinion.

I really don't see any signs of wear on the coin, in hand, but you may all have better eyes than me!

Thanks again, I really do appreciate all of your time.

You just have to look at the detail in the knot below the date. Lots of detail missing for an uncirculated coin ..."when compared to mine"

You can't compare them.. one is .25 cents and the other .50 cents..

But.. they are 1934.

True...But could you not use these 2 for comparison purposes..? There could be some matrix differences and die variations,..but

A 62 should still have a lot more detail..IMHO..

...and a 64 would show nicer surfaces without the usual bag marks that you would expect from a 62.
