yeh just start reporting them to e-bay its what I do, especially when he replied like that, that is a large date 70 and he is trying to jip someone. mailed a guy last night that had a kansas pr 69 clad listed as silver in the pcgs flag holder. told him it wasnt silver and he said yes it was the coin is shiny silver. then I told him if it was silver it would have silver on the label and that if it was a wrong picture he should change it or else I would report him. I cant stand dishonest people. youll see alot of people now listed theyre coins as pcgs ngc and anacs grade all at once when theyre raw and in a mylar flip.

Yep, I get tired of people taking advantage of less-knowledgeable people with coins. This guy did write me back and said I could be mistaken, but I may be right (I am right though...), then asked me to look at his other 1970-S small date auction and give my input. I looked at the second auction and once again, I recognized his picture as a large date. I told him as much. We'll see what he says or does now.

Besides the fact that the coin is a large date I see nothing wrong with the listing

At least it seems like he's taking you seriously and somewhat as a learning experience. I suppose he may really not know they are LDs? I think it's interesting that he based his answer on his trust for his friend that sold it to him. Hard to listen to a stranger when you have a trusted source. Not saying anything ill towards anyone either, just my observation.

Quote: I suppose he may really not know they are LDs? I really believe this is sometimes the case. (I know I'm naive) I went to a coin shop on vacation once, saw a 1970-s SD for sale for 8 bucks. I was thrilled and grabbed it. Upon closer inspection, it was obviously a LD and I pointed out to the owners, they said they bought it the way it was (labeled as a SD) and just put it up for sale. I believe them.

He removed the auction in question, but still has the other one up (as of the last time I checked). I hope he really is just clueless. The fact he has been told though should lead him to remove his auctions until he can verify the coin's true SD or LD status. That's my opinion, anyway.

When folks have a issue on facebook about a pic you just hit the spam button and the pic is gone. That's what ebay needs quick and painless and satisfied customers.

Quote: Once last year I saw 30 or 40% of the SD listings were actually a LD. Every time I've looked, about 80% of them are LD's.

Quote: Check this puppy out, not only a small date but it also has two heads LOL The seller: Quote: What makes this even more rare is the misprinting with the Lincoln Head on both sides! So, they know what a variety is but they don't know that coins are NOT printed?

I have invested some time to research 1970 small dates. The variation is highly subjective IMHO. The only thing you can ascertain is that a 1970S isn't a small date. I enjoy hunting for coins and love the Lincoln Cents, but this variation is a tough one for me...

The 1970 S small date is a hard coin to discern. But if it's obvious that someone is scamming with it, yeah then i'd report them if I had time.

The first thing I look at to discern a small date is weakness in liberty. If it is weak then I will look at the date. If liberty is sharp I still look at the date but I already know it's not a small date.
If the picture isn't clear ask the seller if liberty is sharp or not. I would be willing to bet the seller doesn't know this diagnostic and will spill the beans about the coin without even knowing it.

I buy and sell on several auction sites. All I can say is: if someone tells you they can't put up a picture that carefully represents the details of a specific item, then you are best served by the old adage "BUYER BEWARE." If you can't see clearly what you need to see, please don't buy from people who have excuses for unclear pictures.
