I had wondered about that. I have a few pennies with a shiny "glazed" look about them, so I guess they've been cleaned as well. Only 1 x 1959M, slight double rim. No photos at the moment, have to go downtown and get some more batteries.

Quote: Well done, almost impossible to pick up rare coins in "ünsorted" lots these days as it only takes 5 minutes on Google for a novice to value a coin.I have picked up a 1919 double dot in a bulk buy so I guess you never know what may be have been missed by the seller. Apologies if you're being sarcastic (I am a bit slow this morning) but how can they be unsorted if they are in hand-made rolls labelled with the date?

No worries,i wasn't referring to your coins but generic ebay "ünsorted lots",coins found in old tin in backyard shed, coins found under floorboards, etc.,chances that the seller hasn't checked them out is almost nil in these days of the Internet.

Variety from 1961. Could be a combination of 2 Rennick's or a new unlisted. "Dot Below L/H leg of of second A of Australia" and "Dot above Roo's back"

That is crazy! Do you need a machine to roll them or can you do it by hand? I'm going to give it a go.

The rolls that I bought have marks on then where they have been sitting for a while. All except that the one handwritten in pen, which is new in comparison to the rest. So far, this is the only roll I have opened. You can roll them by hand. Just make sure you get your old man to label them for you, so that it looks more effective. And scuff the paper up a little. This seller hasn't bothered. Looks more romantic than chucking a heap of pennies on a scale, and taking a pic of them. It's subjective, I guess. If you're new and looking to build a collection of varieties, then these lots may be handy.

Rolls with "rolled" ends (where you can see the coins) are machine done. But, easy to roll by hand with the ends just folded over. Does take a little practice to get them even and tight. I imagine a 5/- (60 coin) roll of pennies would be hard to handle to get it neat. The secret is to fold the top end of the wrapper in under the coins, slightly rolling the coins back, before you actually roll forward into the wrapper. If anyone wants to try then give me a yell and I will measure some wrappers for you to cut and try at home. Paper is similar to normal brown, parcel wrapping paper. Banks used to have pads of wrappers for different denominations before they went to the ziplock bags. Jeff
