So has this experiment been carried out already? If not I recommend slicking the 2 coins together using scotch tape. The vibrations of th train will make them slide off. I would be lying if I said this wasn' from personal experience.

Actually, I haven't done this experiment yet. Waiting to find the right time and place to do it. As for having the coins stick together, I used Crazy Glue

I'd go with the painted quarter. Money should not be defaced with gaudy paint. I never saw a painted coin I liked.

There is an early Dollar on ebay that looks for all the world like it has been painted (poorly) with silver paint. LOL seller has a feedback rating of one and signed on a week ago. Maybe I wont bid. that coin looks like a good candidate for a track fusion. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...49319&rd=1,1probably a great coin, just an unfortunate photo

Sorry for not being as active as I would have liked, but I had to get my artwork and photographs ready to be displayed in our public library, as well as get everything set up for my church's festa. And Happy Belated Father's Day to all. Now back to my reply concerning my post: Well, after a LOOONG time of searching for the perfect spot, I finally managed to put the coins on the railroad tracks. Here is the photo of the dollar coin, and ONLY the dollar coin since I can't find the darn quarter Image: quarteranddollar.jpg54.54 KB Well as you can clearly see, the quarter's ridged rim made a nice indentation on the dollar coin. It's a little hard to see from the picture, but "Washington" looks really close to being perfectly centered on the coin. This was a fun experiment, only wish I could find that darn quarter and see what that looks like. But anyways, I probably will be doing this more and uploading the pics to my gallery.

Very cool! Bummer there's a finger print on it, though. :-)

Waste of a perfectly good dollar. Too bad the quarter escaped. I find painted coins to be without redeeming qualities of any kind.

1) I was going to suggest a sandwich; 2 Washingtons & the quarter in the middle. 2) Can you imagine if you had found the Washington dollar coin like that in an uncirculated roll? How much would that pull on ebay?

Well, it actually worked out the way I was going to tell you to do it: put the dollar under the train and throw the quarter at the train after it passes by. Then find the dollar and leave the quarter for future archaelogists. Just about perfect, I'd say, except for the fact that the fingerprint is evidence of a crime.

The dollar coin is intended to circulate... the painted State Quarter is intended to extract money out of peoples pockets for no purpose at all. A coin has a Purpose to pay groceries with... a medal is not..
