Wow that has to be gorgeous in hand!

BTW - surprised some of our die hard Winged Liberty dime collectors are not a bit peeved that this coin adds to the confusion of the US never making an actual Mercury effigy on a dime?!

All right, I have to admit I'm having some doubts about the long-term collectible value of this thing. I don't know if it has anything to do with the falling spot price of silver, but these are now selling on ebay for $599. Even APMEX currently has 38 of them in stock for sale at $629.

I do still love the way it looks and plan to hold onto it for a looooong time and hopefully pass it down to my son some day. I'm just hoping it doesn't end up being worth spot value in 20 years...

Barry,

My guess is it would never be worth less than $400, mainly due to its small mintage. I've been pricing them myself, for a while now. I still definitely want one. The last one I saw went for $535 + S&H a few days ago. You're right about falling spot prices affecting second source offerings, though. Most of the proofs I've bought lately have been at traditionally depreciated levels. I'm hoping to pick the Niue up below $500 but it's almost a race against time before they all disappear. We'll see what happens. If/when spot increases, so will the Redux's value, IMO. So, long-term growth potential on something this unique should be through the roof, not that you ever plan on selling it, sounds like.

I refuse to call that denominated ingot a coin, but it is quite pretty nonetheless. :-)

I have been looking at that coin for months, I'm drooling over your photos. Is there anyway you can do a video of it. The details on the coin must be incredible. It would probably take a year to save for this coin. It is very unique and Id love to own one. A person could see new aspects of the coin each time you look at it. I can just imagine what it would look like using a magnifying glass. I'm glad you took time to share your treasure. It's something you'll have for yrs, unlike junk food or other consumable pleasures. This is what I think when buying silver coins. They are my only vice, and current hobby since I'm housebound. I do agree the gold could of been more detailed, to fit the rest of the coin.

Well, I don't know nothing about creating no videos, but here are a couple of quick ones I just took with my iPhone:

Thank you BarryG , I'm salvating even more now. I just might have the sell some of my older silver coins; I don't look at any more. The more I look at your coin the more I want one. Next I will need to watch the minting video. I bet it will when a COTY in a couple years.

You should post on the main coin forum. You could try of the thread speaking to what you bought today, type threads.

And now, for a brief update...

Three years later, these are apparently still selling on ebay for around $400 each. Quite a drop from the original price of $749. So much for all the reasons I was sure that this would go up in value, eh? The fact that the value of silver itself dropped from around $30/oz. to $17/oz. since then probably contributed to this fact, but I'm guessing these just weren't as collectible as I thought they were going to be.

Ah well, I'm glad I only bought one and I still love it, so that's all right.

Thanks for the update, never saw this post earlier. Just watched the video in the OP and really enjoyed it. Sorry to hear about the price drop though, hopefully it will go back up when the silver prices do.

" confident that the market won't soon be flooded with anything similar"

Just give Niue a year or two. Aside from their scented
pieces, where you can have pizza after your pot, they've got the 1st pyramid piece & the one w/entire bible on a nano chip.
