I'll guess it barely made MS-65. The strike is a little soft which I think will hold it from any higher grade.

I think the lines are die polish marks, and the strike is quite soft and weak but an absence of marks and ticks makes this coin grade MS65 to me. I'm with D0ubl3Eagle on it.

@ dsfreeworld- I dont think the mint made any proof Mercury dimes in 1944 (albeit it does look proof-like in the pics!).

I will guess MS-66

I agree with MS65 but MS66 on the label wouldn't shock me.

Eight Dollars? The only coins I see in antique shops are overpriced coins and bills. I would certainly say that you did well!

BTW I was going to say MS65.

You did awesome! How's the luster? It seems to be more proof-like than it does lustrous.

For under $10.00 the slab costs more than the coin! I think it's a touch over gradded IMO due to the weak strike. But since it's a common coin in high grades it's a deal at what you paid. I like to pick up coins slabbed in higher grades for well under the cost to have them gradded at a TPG.

The picture of the coin in the slab is more representative of what the coin really looks like. It is a very lustrous coin. When I saw it in the antique store my first thoughts were it's going to be too expensive. I asked to see the coin, saw the $8 price tag and told the shopkeeper sold!
