Well the AU had a darker brown/yellow tone while the MS was all white and the sticker was green.

So I am wondering what you think a CAC sticker is really worth; both to you personally and on a market scale. On the market they do better overall, especially when theres a huge jump in price with the next grade. The gold sitckers are highly coveted as well. Certain series they have more effect than others as well. For example high grade IKEs with a sticker do significantly better than ones without. One of the bigger reasons why they do better is because they sticker the best looking coins. Eye appeal is always a winner on the market. In terms of what its worth to people I'm pretty sure youre going to get a split opinion on demographic lines. Older collectors that dont like TPGs in general or just use them for authentication arent going to care. Younger collectors that started out with the TPGs though will for the most part like it and say its sought after. Afterall CAC didnt get where they are by not having anyone care. Overall though the market does assign a premium to them that may or may not exist to an individual depending on who you ask.

Mark Ferguson did a study on this subject that was posted on coinweek.com about a year ago. There's even a link to download the data at the bottom. If I remember right on average a CAC certified coin sell for about 15% above the average for the grade. Anyway here's the link if anyone wants to check it out http://www.coinweek.com/coin-gradin...ce-premiums/

On 4 and 5 figure coins the CAC sticker means a lot. On 2 and 3 figure coins? Not so much.

There are a lot of people - especially the ones who collect the aforementioned 4-5 figure coins - who are thankful for CAC's reassertion of the ability to buy a slab truly sight-unseen in grade. The TPG's got away from that, CAC is forcing a return to it, and the midlevel dealer is benefiting most but the collector isn't hurting as a result. Point being, even if the dealer is snagging a given coin for a customer wantlist which is then refused by the customer, he knows he'll be able to move the coin reliably to an alternate buyer.

It's not worth much on my common date f12 pcgs Barber halves. Yes they really have a green bean on them! For more valuable and high condition coins it can mean a much higher price. 15-20% is pretty consistent with what I see at auction. As always, buy the coin not the holder and the sticker.

The ability to buy coins "sight unseen" is one hobby I will thankfully pass on. I prefer to look my coins in the eye.

I think the NGC or PCGS grade is mostly focused on technical grade (wear, hits, luster, etc) while CAC also takes eye appeal into account as well as technical grade. A CAC stickered coin goes for a little more because they are nicer looking coins, not because of the sticker. The sticker does alert someone that "hey, here's a nice looking coin".

Quote:I prefer to look my coins in the eye. Is this why the CAC stickers are shaped like an "eye"? I still can't believe that there are some dealers out on the interenet who do not show their coins. My San Diego Commemorative Half is graded in an older (1st Generation?) PCGS slab at MS63 and has the Gold CAC Sticker, which subsequently means that in CAC's opinion, it should grade (one or two points?) higher than what PCGS graded it at. I paid a little more than I probably should have but I wanted the "gold" sticker...I am kinda vain that way. Here is an excerpt that I found on CAC; "Certified coins with CAC stickers have commanded bonus premiums because of the generally accepted perception that they are superior to 'unstickered' coins in the same grade - - " and coins with gold stickers have been selling for significantly more, often several times as much as coins of the same type, date, and grade that lack a CAC sticker." "The green CAC are bringing 5 to 15 percent more on average, and coins with gold stickers are selling for roughly 80% to 90% percent as much as those already certified in the next higher grade." my opinion is they are worth nothing, may be interesting if someone could do a price check on some coins of same grade slabbed by pcgs or ngc with and without cac, still I say it is worth nothing, my opinion only

It's a second opinion on a coin. Some people feel a second opinion is good and some don't. It depends how much a collector trusts TPG.

That CAC sticker will make the slabbed coins it graces more marketable. Numismatics is all about eye appeal and that's what CAC was designed to do designate those slabbed coins that were at least middle third or top third for the given grade. As always though when buying grade the coin for yourself and make sure that YOU AGREE with the grade and the CAC sticker.

If that little sticker will bring me 15% more on a $10,000 coin I'm trying to auction, then yeah, it means something to me. Otherwise, I don't own one coin CAC'd.
