MY POINT was that he was being rude to me, and the first poster nor the second for that matter, EXPLAINED it to me, but he did...in a very rude way, albeit, free of charge. How was I supposed to know that poster 1 and 2 thought it was PMD? With out any see-able or explainable proof. That was why I questioned their opinions, because I did not understand. I questioned them to seek more of an answer/s. I do not see how I 'flamed' seal. I simply explained my displeasure with his tone/harsh yet free opinion giving. I would of happily accepted the answers for what they were, if they had satisfied by topic's original question, since they didn't, I kept on with the questions. Trout, please do not take my actions as disrespectful as they were done seeking knowledge. If I can't question 'educated members,' or 'moderators' for that matter, then there is no point in a message board, because that's what message boards like this one are for....for users to ask any amount of questions as they want.

The rim damage is concerning on coin 5. Could a strike through die cap cause rim damage ? Experts?

I did state that "looks like it was caused by a vice, PMD." and I should have explained in more detail.

He has made only 46 posts and I am already done with this poster. You got a harsh answer from me because you were not willing to educate yourself. Both coins 1 and 2 are the same damage you can find on hundreds of posts in this forum. Not to mention other websites like error-ref. Instead you chose to ask the masses. Then you were told by more than one member that they were not errors, yet continue to argue. Buy some books, search the internet, read the forum for all the education you could possibly ever want. Some of us have been at this for years. We hone our skills with more research and education everyday. Asking questions is perfectly fine if the answers cannot be so easily found with just a little bit of effort.

To sum up then: Coin #1: 1 cent , PMDCoin #2: 1 cent, Zinc rot Coin #3: $3-$10, off-center strike (IMHO, start it at .99 cents and let the market dictate it's value) Coin #4: $8-$25, major off-center strike (IMHO, I would again let the market dictate it's value as this is a desirable coin for many collectors) Coin #5: $8-$40, Strike Through Die Cap You have been fortunate to receive expert opinions from some extremely smart and experienced people that are on this forum for the sole purpose of educating neophyte collectors like you and me. I, too, have had some less than pleasant responses to my naive and defensive posts at times, but for me, it is all part of the learning process and in retrospect I appreciate all the help no matter how it was delivered. The bottom line?... Everyone here is just trying to help and they are really, really good at this stuff. Now, as Coop would say: It's time for me to step down off my soapbox....

Fantastic, and I am just trying to learn...maybe, defensively, but definitely in my own way. Thank you Sudz for the way you showed your answer, that helps me a lot.
I will be moving on now, and posting a few more coins to get help on those. I'll get them congregated and post pictures at some point tonight.

SUDZ! THANK YOU! I agree 100% with your assessment. It's also the first COMPLETE correct answer, which is clearly all the OP was looking for.
Redfin- There are some harsh and stubborn personalities (I am usually one of them) on public forums. While what is often related is done so poorly, I've learned to try to rise above the tones of negativity often encountered. You don't deserve to be addressed less than politely, nobody does without good reason. Please don't let one "bad apple" put a nasty taste in your mouth for too long!
There SHOULD be 2 types of members participating in thread discussions: Those who want to learn, and those in a position to teach. Everyone else should hold their breath and pick a side. Nastiness only begets nastiness and we are ALL better than that.

PS- I think you showed wisdom beyond your experience to "ball up" and ask for opinions before representing coins as errors on ebay. This is textbook behavior for an open minded seller and very refreshing. If everyone with uncertainty did just this before listing on ebay we'd have a very different marketplace! Please don't be discouraged for doing things the absolute correct way. Bravo.

Thank you Redifin and Liveandievarieties for the kind words.
If I may interject one last thought (well, from me anyway): The last thing I want to do is make out anyone as a bad guy, especially seal006, who has pretty much dedicated his life's work to the service of others who desperately need help and then, in his spare time, comes here to help us. seal006, you are one of my favorite mentors and have my utmost respect. In fact, all the experts and near-experts at CCF have... Thanks, I am grateful to all of you.

Liveandivarieties, thank you for the encouragement and kind words! I think everyone should do this before posting on ebay too. Sudz:I completely agree. Even a priest has a bad day, or has said something he regrets. No one is the bad guy, and I'm not trying to justify my actions...however, I will move on from this thread and post one later...then handle it better, or, with more patience/preparation.

That's awesome.
I try not to vilify anyone, others could do the same in my own regard.
I feel it is important to note that we can never control or prevent another's response or the way they take things. Conversely, we can ALWAYS choose how we handle ourselves. I may sound like a hypocrite saying this, but I recently had something of an "awakening" which has permanently changed much of my perspective.
Again, bravo on what turned into a productive and friendly thread!

We can always correct our thinking, but if we lash out with words, these only hurt and can't be taken back easily.

I started a few months ago with a 1968 P that I was convinced was a rare and valuable coin. The MD was Fantastic and I thought I hit the proverbial "Gold Mine". Not only did I have 1, but I had 4! Dang I thought I was gonna be rich. It took me a bit to find CCF, and when I did, I was like, man you people are crazy! Can't you see the doubling? I figured my coins should be worth as much as the most well sought after DD's. But alas, I was brought down to reality by some great members of this site. I admit, when I read the first comments about my coins, I was hurt and wanted to argue and tell everyone they were Not seeing the same thing I was. Now after a few months of researching, I know now, I only had a small pile of "Shacks". I have kept them though for future reference, and I have nothing but the utmost praise for the opinions I have received from the likes of Coop, BadThad, Seal, Sudz and many more. So, take it with a grain of salt if you don't like or agree with their conclusions. But do do one thing, respect them for volunteering their hard earned time to help newbies like me. Thank you all.
