The die chip on the 8th feather is supposed to be a confirming indicator of an S-4. The variety is characterized by repunching on the '1' and top of last '9'. I'm not sure that I see it on this coin, probably due to wear and gunk.

Oh yeah--I have that same 1899 with the chip! Does it have a Snow # now? I remember showing mine to Rick Snow. Nice find from change! VG-10

VG10 to me also, look forward to seeing how this coin conserves, please post some after shots of it! A really neat find especially in change today!

Just a heads up everyone. There must be a least three letters from Liberty visible.
The grade is an easy G-4. Would be G-6 IF the rim was full.

In my grading book it states three letters. I can only make out the L. It's okay if you guys disagree with me, just making a point. Here's the book I use:

Looks like Snow4 and Snow5 both have the die chip that is on your coin. Both have repunching on the 1, which I see in your coin. S4 has repunching on the 2nd 9, and S5 has repunching on the 8: I don't see either on your coin.

robbudo, Would you please point out where I need to look on the 1? Are you saying it is a S4 or a S5? Any added value? Thank you much. John1

Underneath the flag of the 1. I can't tell whether it is S4 or S5, but I'm sure Rick Snow could! These minor RPDs are supposed to double or triple the base value of the coin. So, no one will be getting rich here, but it is really awesome to find an RPD in change.
