The United States Mint is continuing to take orders for the 2007 First Spouse Series One-Half Ounce Gold Proof Coin - Martha Washington. Although orders have already been taken that meet the maximum limit for this product, we will continue to accept orders in the event cancellations occur. Should products become available, these orders will be considered "next in line," and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The United States Mint cannot provide information on specific customer order status either online or by telephone. If paying by credit card, please be sure your credit card information remains current. If we are not able to fulfill your order, you will be notified that your order was cancelled. If you paid by check, you will receive a refund. As with all of our products, the United States Mint reserves the right to accept or reject orders in any combination or options it determines to be in its best interest.

I'm a long time lurker, lead to create a username on coincommunity.com because of the attempts at self censorship here. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the new First Lady coins do say "Liberty" on them. Can't we just freely express our opinions and let the chips fall where they may? Fear of hurting feelings and fear of discouraging action is a poor excuse for censoring yourself or anybody else. Your opinions are what make this site so valuable, please don't be afraid to share them fully.

I am a little surprised the First Lady Bullion sold out as fast as it did. I still don't see them as being a great rarity. I didn't predict the 20th anniversary Eagles would sell out either. I can't say that I'm too upset that I missed out on purchasing any of them.
Did anyone purchased any First Lady Bullion?

No. But I just saw them come out on E Bay for sale. One seller had them for $789 each, and I saw another for all four for $4000. Whether someone will pay that is another thing I suppose.
I am new to numismatics and was thinking about trying to start out with these, but in my heart I think it is probably good I did not due to the expense. I wonder if you can find older U.S. gold coins for less than what the U.S. Mint charges for these current issues. Then again, I suppose it might be better to get a little more experience before I try to purchase any gold or gold bullion in general. I guess it helps to set a budget as a starting point.

I thought about buying them just to make some money off of them...not to keep.  Wonder if the Mint is being consistant and doing more proofs than MS? There are so many nice coins out there, I think I'd rather do like Prethen and get Proof coins from the 19th century.  For those of you who missed it... https://goccf.com/t/16069  |

My thoughts are that the mint is keeping the mintage low to generate interest where previously there was little.

I bought one of each on the 19th, in proofs. Took me 25 minutes to complete the transaction....called today after looking at the Mint's web site and saw them no longer available....customer service rep informed me they were sold out within two hours....

Because of the limited mintage and the way the mint is selling them, collecting a whole set of either MS or PF will be very difficult. The odds of missing out on at least one or two coins along the way is great. I missed out on the first 2. So forget trying to get a set. I will try to get the next one as it will be bringing back an old coin design from the Half Cent I believe. Can not wait to see what these are going to be selling for by the TV crooks. |

I think as time goes on the First Lady coins will get a little easier to obtain. Right now its the hot new item. In a couple of years that should fade.
I'm sure the TV crooks are already preparing to rip off, I mean sell them at astronomical prices.

I saw an add in a newspaper that made me do a double take.
It was for $50 of supposedly uncirculated Washington Presidential Coins that were "being horded" by the World Bank and being released for the low, low price of $98! The stupid coins were in a plastic coin holder with a paper label that you see over liquor bottles.
Absurd.

Yep ! Even the U.S. Mint is making their money off of the public too ! You can get a $25.00 roll of those Presidential dollars right from your OWN BANK FOR $25.00 EVEN MONEY !! The Mint charges ......what..... $35.00 plus shipping and handling !! It kind of sucks ! I know they're a "business" and one to make profit, but it just doesn't somehow seem right, then again it IS the government......so leave it up to them to make money off of selling money ! |
