You did alright on this coin for $100 anyways. However, and this is just my Two Cents, but when buying cents that aren't graded by ICCS, keep in mind that it is the standard, and that they very rarely give grades above MS63 to Brown cents. Without seeing the coin, I would suspect that it would grade MS63 Brown by ICCS, in which case trends are $225 (for 65-80% Red).

Often we say the scan doesn't do the coin justice but in this case it is the other way round. Promptly popped into my PCGS blue box never to be looked at again or sold.

Well it seems my lack of enthusiasm is not shared on that well known auction site and lots of watchers and got a couple of bids already on a 10 day auction window.

As it was brown I didn't want to hang on to it but it sold for over twice what I paid, so an ok deal.

The George V series is very tough, if not almost impossible, to find in mint state red. It is hard to be fussy with this series in grades MS-64 and above.

I have ICCS graded MS-65 and MS-66 red coins from this series that will be making the trip to PCGS - I suspect half of them will come back red-brown. PCGS is very tough on older bronze and copper coins, but they are mostly consistent and fair.

I find the best way to approach this series is by being patient, and trying to understand how this series tones and grades... some years are prone to woodgrain toning, others tend to tone a dark red wine colour (lustrous brown)... beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder...

Please AVOID boeingbruce based in Canada who thought is necessary to leave me a Negative feedback on this great coin because he objected to paying customs charges. When sending coins abroad it is accepted practice and common sense to describe item as collectibles. Broadcasting that a coin is inside is asking for trouble. As Boeingbruce did not like the way the customs for was completed, a spiteful Negative was left. Something that I had removed by e-bay immediately. Sellers beware.

When I looked at the package you sent me I was very grateful that you put collectibles and not "coins" for your very reason! If you ask me it was the buyers ignorance.... If you're buying something overseas there will have to be a customs declaration... I'm not sure what he was expecting .. that you lie?

Some are just unreasonable... let it be known from my discussions and transactions I would say you're completely a stand up individual.

Sorry to hear you ran into a Canuck that treated you unfairly Marbury.

I always recommend the use of "numismatic item" on declaration slips to ward off interest of criminal element - and secondarily, often will not draw attention of Customs in relation to the extremely high tariffs, duty, and taxes that we have to pay on importing goods here - so much for "Free Trade", eh :)

While few people have any idea what that "numismatic item" may be, almost everyone knows that a "collectible" item may be of significant value.

Thanks for your support AgCoinAu.....I thought that as the buyer was happy with the slabbed coin but objected to paying 40 bucks to the Canadian government, it was wholly uncalled for to give me a Negative. I have 100% positives of 234 transactions. I am sure Glenzy will support me on this too.

I think almost every reasonable individual would support you on this ... It's the #1 reason I have an alternate shipping address in the states.... I have items that are from the states shipped there.... and I go there to pick them up approx 4 times a year....

Most of the coins I may buy out of the states are gold or silver.. but if they're not .999 they're subject to duty. This is a very easy way to circumvent that issue. I was however prepared to pay customs on your item that I won.. and was surprised when I didn't have to...

The other individual in question will have to learn if you're buying from anywhere outside of Canada that you will have to pay duty... his problem... not yours.. dust off your shoulders... and carry on doing a good job!

I will dust them off then.........his long, sarcastic and offensive e-mails on the matter didn't help. Thanks, marbury
