Wasn't it public knowledge that the gold coins were in the vault though? It would be nice though!!

At the Coin Expo, asked for curiosity only the price, around 300,000.00 quite a large HST.

Just like when buying a house. The HST is too expensive.

the few and far betweenies that can afford 1/2 million dollar coins, cars, homes and other toys, never worry about the tax, 'cause they can afford that too!

Glenzy1 do you think the coin will be around for long?

Just wondering if this is a coin that some collector with money will snatch up quickly or do we feel it is likely to sit on the shelves awhile? Wonder what they paid for such a coin ?

jb - It's hard to say. Most collectors with money who want one of these probably have one already. This one is MS66, which I believe makes it tied as finest known. It's possible someone has a 64 or 65 and wants to upgrade. It's also possible that some collector has recently come into some money and will buy it. However, I doubt it will go that quickly - especially if they are asking $300,000. I believe the last one this nice sold for $220,000 (plus BP).

As for what CC&C paid for it - they didn't. The owner probably brought it to them and offered them 5-10% to sell it for him. He may have needed some cash, so maybe they gave him some money for now, and the rest payable when it's sold - but I highly doubt they actually purchased it, it would be way too much of a gamble, and tie up too much cash.

Correct you are John. I've seen it before (not in person) and I really don't like the look of it.

They are not worried about selling it. The PR is really important for the store. Remember: they had the million dollar coin for awhile.

This particular '21 , MS-66 is actually part of Steven Bromberg's personal Collection. He is the owner of Canadian Coin and Currency and is often seen on the Shopping Channel selling N.C.L.T. coins / bills and occasionally sets of business strike coins that were pre-arranged into series.
His new store is located in Richmond Hill, Toronto and is quite a site to behold with state of the art security. You have to be buzzed in and out of a locked door, 11 camera's monitor your every move. A special private room is in the store for customers who want to deal in high end coins, customers are not allowed to enter store with sun glasses/baseball hats on, etc.

It is a very nice store I must say. I have had mixed experience in it though, I think it depends on who is serving you, sometimes they haven't taken us very seriously and needless to say I haven't pushed the issue. That aside why is it that Mr. Bromberg is looking to sell this coin? Do we think it is a mere publicity stunt or is cash needed?

I think it's part publicity stunt and a bit of boasting! The coin screams out loud, hey everyone look what I have and you never will! P.S.: I'd probably do the same thing if that was mine..........LOL

The Norweb piece was graded PCGS MS 67,... but Brian graded it as Specimen 67.

It sold in 1996 for $90,200.00 but I don't know if any other fees were later added to that #.

Nice to see such rare and flawless coins still floating around for us to over....
