The reputable dealer I got this from had a tray of them, he showed me another tray with cleaned coins...
He is very reputable and when I have been in there, I have seen 10's of thousands of dollars change hands.
The pics were taken through a plastic flip, so I guess it is hard to tell.
I will take it to another local dealer and ask him his opinion.

These were advertised as non-cleaned pieces.

BH1964, in the event it wasn't cleaned would it still be a bullion piece?

To help answer for BH if he doesn't mind, yes, it would still be pretty much a bullion coin. You don't see upwards of even $50 until you get to the MS range, and even then it's a slow progression in monetary value for this year. If it's a legitimate AU coin you may fetch a touch over melt, but I don't think too much.

Keep in mind, this coin had the single largest mintage of any Silver Dollar in US history. Over 51 million 1922-P's were struck.

I picked this one because it was the first year of mintage.
I didn't have one before (of any year). So I don't feel to bad. When I go back to the shop, I will have them exchange it for an uncleaned one of the same year.

I stand corrected..
I thought they stopped making morgans in 1921 and started with Peace dollars in 1922

Here is another scan without the plastic flip

I just got a copy of Coin Worlds - Making the grade.. got it for 19.99 free shipping.
Looks like between a EF-45 and AU50 to me, but I am new at this.

For 20$ you did good.

The fact that it doesn't come nowhere near 50$ doesn't mean it's bullion.
Any coins that sells for 25-30% over melt is semi collectible in my book.

I'd go with EF45, and at $20 I'd be a buyer all day long!
