Thanks guys! I was thinking the same too, lower end. But it is my first and have to start somewhere. And I did get it for free! I also scored a War Nickel that was pretty beat up. I'm also now up to 715 wheat pennies in the last three months. I'm doing really well for getting started. I will post some other photos soon.

to CCF! Amy (my wife) and I looked at the coin and we both said the coin would be AG at best, and with the current price of silver we agree that this coin is silver value only. So just about $1.50 ASV. For the coin to be "Good", you'd have to see much more detail and at least the part of LIBERTY, and Fine would show more of LIBERTY, but very weak. Keep looking and study something like PCGS Photograde http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/ to help learn coin grades. Good luck! Ben and Amy

Makes me jealous that here in Britain we don't have any coins in circulation pre-1971.

Wow congratulations! Silver Rosie's are scarce enough, but what a find . I would also say About Good-3. The letters are halfway combined into the rim and the portrait is an outline. A great find in any condition! By the way to Coin Community!

Also for value probably about $4. Don't be disappointed, that's a 400% increase from ten cents!
The New Orleans Mint is fascinating. It has been closed for over a hundred years. While the San Francisco Mint is great too, it's not the same since they still make proofs and UNC. sets today.

Change? wow. I'd value it at junk silver prices, personally.

The coin is not even close to fine. It's AG-3.... But great find! The value would be melt.

What region of the country do you live in? I am always a combination of amazed and skeptical, no personal offense meant of course, when people find 100 yr old silver in change. War Nickels make sense because it does not take a keen eye to overlook a Jefferson nickel but barber silver? Nonetheless enjoy the coin

I am in PA dsfreeworld. I'm amazed at what I find in circulation here also. Never thought I would see Barber coins. Or my couple Mercury dimes either, but people sometimes don't pay attention I guess. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm assuming its AG-3 or 4 at best. Still a cool find but too bad its shot all to heck.

As a Barber dime enthusiast I'll offer a humble opinion. The characteristic to focus upon is the rim to letters ratio. (The same characteristic is useful for other series as well.) The key phrases are 'rim touching letters' and 'rim wearing into letters.' By this criterium, the obverse legend "United States of America" can be graded good until look at 'America' which fails by just a hair. Especially the letters 'eri." Oddly, the reverse is an overall good, if the top is equally warn. I have always suspected that Pennsylvania was among the last places to find Barbers in circulation. Certainly during the 50s and early 60s. But in 2013 - a minor miracle! ENJOY!
