 evens out as a VF30 for me, I could see this a bit higher, but the eye appeal isn't the best on the obverse, I like the reverse a solid EF40. "Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. I'll say 35/40 leaning towards 40. I think the color contrast is making it look like it has more wear than it does.

PCGS says VF 30. I thought it was a bit harsh. Since the price jumps so high between VF and XF I was thinking about cracking out and sending into NGC and hope for a XF40. Good idea?

I see no chance of it grading XF40. NGC might go VF35 though and at NGC VF35 it would likely be valued the same as a PCGS VF30. It is a nice VF30. |

I definitely wouldn't.. Looks like a solid 30. It couldt slide into a 35 but I don't see it having a shot at a 40 or higher. And as mentioned a NGC 35 would sell for about the same as a PCGS 30.. The obverse just isn't strong enough for it to make EF.. |

The reputable TPGs don't do average grading anymore, at least not as I understand it.
And they definitely don't do split grading.
The coin gets the grade based on the worse of the two sides.
Only time they "push" it is if it's a key coin.
