I won't get to find that out for several days ... but I'll have bought this for a song after selling off the stuff that was with it ... which also included a partially completed Wheat cent album besides the nice 1868 2 cent piece and 1909 Indian. This is a date that's eluded me in any kind of recognizable condition at a price that I can live with. For my Indians ... I need 1868 to 1872 ... and the "big 3". For my Lincoln set ... just "the big 3" 09-S VDB, 14-D and 31-S. Chance |

The more I study the images with the listing, the more inclined I am to think that they are not digital pictures, but are actually scans. The porosity that appears ... may not be there at all. Time will tell, but coins that are scanned typically look dry and grainy. I bought a 1921 Peace dollar once for 12 dollars from a scanned image ... and it looked a hundred times better in hand. It had the same grainy, washed out appearance. Chance |

That's about the only way I can add anything of consequence to my collection these days. I now have to work with the coins I already own ... and buy and sell from what I already have. I buy stuff when the price is right, but don't normally keep much that really adds to my "collection". Anything I add to my holdings ... probably isn't going to stay long.

Stamp dealers are especially prone to using a flatbed scanner instead of a camera, given that "for their normal fare" that works fine. I bought an AU 1859 Indian head out of Italy for 40 dollars that looks nothing like the scan provided by the seller, who is primarily a stamp dealer. It's one of the better buys of the past couple months.
I'll post pics when it gets here. Might be a real good coin, might not.... we shall see.

Now that this lot has been mailed and I have a tracking number ... if you want to check out the original listing and opine on the images being scans ... which I believe them to be....here's the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/22132365093....m1439.l2649Interestingly ... both this lot, and the lot that yielded the 1909-S Lincoln, both came out of Florida. The 09-S is a VG....and while it's not the greatest, it's got no corrosion or damage, and it ended up costing me 7 dollars. I'll bet it's a week before I see this lot. Chance |

Got the coins today, and the 1866 does have a bit of porosity, but is a nice hole filler for what I'll have in it. It actually looks way better "in hand". The 1868 2 cent piece is pretty nice. I didn't take any pictures of it though. The 43 is reprocessed, and wasn't a particularly good candidate for the process. It's pretty grainy looking. I'll give it to a youngster downtown who will like it. In the snoopy album was this 1955 .... any thoughts? It's not in great shape but "Liberty" is fanned out a bit wider toward the rim, and the motto is awfully heavy. The first obverse shot of the 66 pretty accurately portrays the color. The others don't, but show enough detail. Chance     |

I'm very bad at spotting DDO's.. can you show me what on that penny you are specifically looking at that proves it's a DDO? Thanks :) |

Mine isn't a DDO .... but just do a google image search for 1955 DDO .... you'll see "a blind man on a galloping elephant could spot that one. Some lesser DDOs are more difficult to spot, but the desirable 55 lincoln, does not fall into that category. Chance |
