Hollow stars on the above Trade dollar? Looks nice but... The seller of the OP "Dollar" has terrible English; Quote:"This was in a storage unit I bought it was in a box with lots of old pennys I don't know anything but what it says. The frount with the lady says in God we trust 1883 The Back says United States Of America E Pluribus Unum on a banner hard to see. 420 grains 900 fine CC Trade dollar. I dont think it's legul Tender like real money but It will make a nice neckless or melt down for the 900 silver? Thanks For looking.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Nov-27-13 at 22:04:34 PST, seller added the following information:
A E-bayer just wrote and told me this is not a real coin as I said not leagle tender. Thanks E-Bayer" I know it's not polite to point, but...

I have had additional communication from the seller. Following the first email. I wrote this: Quote:I have no idea what it is made of, but most of the fake ones are copper or iron on the inside. If it is iron, a magnet will stick to it, if copper it will not. I would guess that it is probably not real silver though. Nevertheless, aside from your comment about not being legal tender, the coin is fake, and people have bid on the coin without that knowledge. As a rule, ebay forbids any fake coins. Unfortunately, many fake coins are posted on ebay and many people without knowledge sometimes get burned and lose a lot of money. He just replied back to me with the following: Quote:So interesting what we learn on ebay, I did pull the auction, Wow I just tried a magnet does it does stick to it, Bummer Hey Thanks for all your knowladge. Manning My impression is that this guy is honorable enough, just doesn't know what he is doing with respect to coins on ebay.

I'd advise him to try a spell checker, even if he had real items the bad spelling is SUCH a turn off for me.

I'm just impressed with the three different misspellings of "legal," and not one of them used twice!

Nice catch Susuman.
As far as the sellers grammar, I am impressed with all the different ways he found to spell legal. Talk about creativity!

I'll take honesty over spelling and grammar, etc ... pleasant ending.
Nice job, Susuman!

I guess someone has to break the real bad news to him; that he can't sell it on ebay at all.

The bad thing is all the people that bid on the coin. Just looking at the coin the obvious "OFF" look to the details in LIBERTY --- such an obvious FAKE.
