I totally agree, when things like this happen to me, I just walk away and take it as an omen.

For $800 you could get slabbed MS or 2 AU's , and be sure they are genuine and not cleaned.

Wow... That stinks. Lol, my wife does that all the time.. I get to a store, low and behold no money available...

And I second that none of my LCS's accept plastic of any kind... I was quite upset to learn that last year on my bday when my wife bought me a visa gift card to buy coins with as she never knows what to pick.... And none of the stores accepted them...

My coin shop does that as well, I asked them why they are cash only and its because of fraud. You buy something very expensive then cancel the credit card transaction and they are out in the cold on it. It's odd but I guess a lot of coin shops do that especially on bullion which can fluctuate daily.

Go to ebay and you can find some slabbed ones by PCGS, NGC or ANACs. There are chinese fakes of key dates so would hate for you to buy $800 worth and find out they are fake...

Yeah. It sucked. Lol. One was slabbed so pretty sure that one was not a fake. As for the other two... Who really know. I was willing to risk it though as the average price wasn't that bad.

You could always have run to the bank and withdrawn the money and gone back to the store.

How many branch locations does your bank have?

Interesting. I have never had that come up. They do as upstate described for cash purchases, but all gladly accept plastic at the listed prices plus tax. I have to agree with your thought of this IS 2013 right? Vendors have recourse with cancelled charges. I have sent in copies of signed receipts many times to prove the charge was legit.

It may be old fashioned, but ...
After many months of slow negotiations with dealers I have gathered a few who will take my personal check if I do not have enough cash.
But, in this day and age, NOT to accept a card for an $800 purchase is uncommon.
Still, each and every dealer is different.
Cash does give advantages, but trusted dealers will cut me a break.

I know this might be off topic but want to share.

All my dealers only take cash too. But in Adams town, a big flea market.
There is a dealer who takes credit cards. (Adams town, Pennsylvania)

lol... Yeah it is what it is... As it turned out I found a better deal the next day for a higher grade 1928! So all ended well.

Nice! You should post some high quality pictures.

I had a 1923 MS-65 Peace dollar I sold before. I enjoyed it but the year just wasn't the best choice.
I might someday buy a better one but not a common year. I like AU-58 and up. So I might try for an AU-58 that's semi-key-date.

@jack jeckel - yeah I thought of that, however, where I live my bank has no branches and I did not feel like driving to San Antonio. sooo.... yeah, but you know it all worked out I managed to get a better deal elsewhere... my Peace dollar Collection is almost complete. So pumped.
