At essentially $40 above the individual prices ( ASE Proof @ $53 and Silver Proof Set @ $54) that makes for a pricey holder plus you don't get the cent, nickel, or the five golden dollars. I like how it looks, but not $40 worth...though as I stated, ebay seems to bear this out as a fair investment.

"Mintage Limit: 50,000"? That's just this packaging, right?

How are you guys coming up with it being worth it? I can probably get them next year for a lot less. The ASE is worth like 65? The other ones might be like 35 to get them all.

Considering I could sell our 2012's for a decent profit, thats how I would say it is worth it.
To the OP, perhaps a bit of paying for packaging, similar to the Premier Silver Proof sets, but sometimes the OGP does make a difference. I absolutely LOVE the set. I will be getting the 13.

I decided to pass on it, myself. I have all the coins already. I just can't stomach the price.

I think it is kind of misleading to say the mint has repackaged "left over proofs" in this set. They sold over 800,000 proof ASE this year and your belief is they have left overs? I agree the price is steep - and I honestly don't know why the mint has put such a premium on this set. That said it is a really nice package. There are those among us who believe a mint issued released collection is worth a little more. Sure you can assemble the same coin set from various other releases - but 10 years from now they will be just that random coins from various sets - and this will be an "as issued by the mint set". If you collect coins in the OGP and are not a fan of the repackaging labels of TPG this is a nice well done set.

xly - I've kind of watched those prices as well. I have several rolls of them that I bought from various sources when they were released. I think it is a bit different for those - because they are the last issue of the penny in Canada as well as certified the last off the presses. I doubt they hold that value over time - but certainly are high priced pennies right now.

I believe those pennies will hold their value. They are the last. They will ALWAYS be the last. That is something that collectors will continue to want.
As for the packaging. Choose an action figure. Any one. Compare the value of that figure in mint condition but out of the packaging to the value of one still in the original packaging.

The secondary market value of the 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set is boosted by the early sellout of the standard 2012 Silver Proof Set. These two Sets are the only sources for the 2012 Silver Proof JFK Half and Dime (under 400k each). I only had one 2012 Limited Edition Set before the regular Set's sellout.

DNA.. the normal 2012 and 2013 silver proof set has a silver half and dime.

I passed on the 2012 set and I'm going to pass on the 2013 set as well. It is an overpriced set and I already have silver proof sets and ASE proofs.

If the 2013 silver proof set continues to be sold deep into next year, then the premium is not worth it for the LESPS. The 2012 LESPS is only worth $200 because of the $70 proof ASE and key date silver Kennedy half at $80. This set should be cheaper in the aftermarket if the 2013 silver Kennedy half doesn't set a new mintage low.

Quote: DNA.. the normal 2012 and 2013 silver proof set has a silver half and dime. I did say "these two Sets", meaning the 2012 Limited Set and the standard 2012 Silver Proof Set mentioned in my previous sentence. When the standard 2012 Silver Proof Set sold out on January 5th, 2013, the 2012 Limited Edition Set became the only Set offered by the Mint that included the silver 2012 JFK and Dime. Once the standard Set's final figure was known (395,443), purchasing the 2012 Limited Set suddenly made more sense. The Limited Set added another 50,169 silver Proof JFK's and Dimes, for a total of 445,612 mintage for these two coins. Quote: If the 2013 silver proof set continues to be sold deep into next year, then the premium is not worth it for the LESPS.
