I wish Amazon would get into the coin business. I just bought a laser printer and extra cartridge from them at half the price I could have got it at one of the big electronic stores + FREE shipping from UPS. New battery for my UPS, same thing, half the price + FREE UPS (yes, a UPS battery comes by a UPS truck).

If you sell frequently into the US, one way around higher Canadian postal rates is to ship out of the US if you live within 60 minutes of the US border. You can offset the cost and time of driving down by also receiving parcels in the US (i.e. UPSStore), filling up on cheaper gasoline and shopping (i.e. buy groceries). I have friend is a frequent ebay seller and he saves hundreds per week with his postal visits to the USA.

US Customs will charge you $11 USD each time you cross the border with a parcel to mail, and I believe there is an annual fee that you can pay instead.

Edmonton is at least 6 hours from the border... not a fun trip.

I hear ya nalaberong, we're 2 hours northeast of Edmonton so a trip south is out of the question. I mail out parcels daily from ebay sales. A parcel going to western canada that would cost $4.00 to ship will cost $13.00 to ship to eastern Canada. Exact same parcel. Our postmaster has no explanation other than the distance covered. I brought up the arguement that I can send the same parcel to Florida for half the cost and she had no explanation. Now it will be even higher. Lots of ebay buyers don't understand it or believe it when you explain it to them. You either need to suffer some losses selling on ebay, or sacrifice sales. Now it will be worse yet.

I returned a package to a seller in Connecticut today. USPS International Expedited coming to me in Vancouver, BC cost the person sending it $9.14 USD. Return shipping by Canada Post with tracking cost about $18 CAD. This is ridiculous.
USPS even turns a profit!
I was searching to see if Shoppers Drug Mart was gouging, or if that was just the going rate. At least I found an entertaining press release from 2010 where someone claimed a Canada Post customer service rep emailed them in response to a query about rates used by Shoppers, where the Canada Post employee told them private Canada Post outlets can charge whatever they want - turned out to be an urban legend, but makes me wonder!

Quote: USPS even turns a profit! USPS recorded losses of 4.98B and 15.9B in 2013 and 2012. That's over 20 billion dollars in the past two years.

I purchased 6 coins from one seller last week... combined shipping $4.... The auction finished this weekend... I received the coins today... express post...
Needless to say I was very impressed... but don't think I'll see that kind of service for much longer..

The story about postal outlets charging more than real offices is a myth.
I always calculate my postal rates on the Canada Post website before shipping stuff and the prices I get charged at pharmacies with outlets and the post offices are both the same as the website.

I agree with 1945V, they charge the official rates.

The effects of large scale quantitative easing are starting to really percolate through our economies. Higher fuel prices mean increased delivery costs. The more they print, the worse it will get.

For those who want to save shipping charge to the US and international. DYK Logistics is now shipping to USPS from Calgary. Essentially, you pay USPS rate and they take your packages to the US post office for a small fee.
Anyone tried this?
