I like all Proof Coins; with or without toning. That said, it does need to have nice eye appeal.

with the eye appeal comment made by Canadian-Banknotes

I like proof coins either way and judge them on a coin by coin basis.

I like proofs- some designs look good with toning (like the Barber dime you posted) and some do not look good in my opinion (like ASE proofs) It really depends on design.

I love toned proofs as long as they're attractive and same goes with business strikes.

Re: the two Barber dime examples.
I like the toned better.
Toning is the eventual destiny of coins.
Try as may to prevent it, it is bound to happen.
Learn to accept that metals, save for gold, will tone.
And US gold coins (NOT the bullion) will tone due to the copper content.

I guess I should have included a choice that said "I have no preference on whether a coin has toning or not". I'd think that would cover the people that mentioned "eye appeal" as their higher priority. However "eye appeal" is in the eye of the beholder. In other words a toned coin may have great "eye appeal" to one person and not to the next.

What I'm hoping people are asking themselves as far as the poll questions is which holds greater "eye appeal" to you personally in general, toned or untoned coins?

I prefer Cameo proofs with no toning, and non-cameo proofs with some toning.

You know, that's a good point - toning would detract from the cameo, which is glorious on its' own.

For the most part I'll agree with you on this. Once in a while a nicely toned cameo can look great too. Here's a shameless plug for one of my cameo proofs that I feel is a good example of this.

A proof coin that has toned is unique and depending on it's eye appeal would determine if it would be acceptable or not. I like proofs, I love cameo proofs but only have one cameo proof that is toned and it is one of my favorite coins.

"Other (explain in your post)"

I like them both ways, either way, as long as the coin has eye appeal.
