Actually, I don't get what you guys are calling a scam....

It WILL be a scam if the winner doesn't get 616 (or whatever) dimes dated from 1829 to 1916. If the winner gets these dimes, then it isn't a scam.

The only thing "dishonest" about the auction MAY be the reason for selling them. But how the heck do we know? And I don't think the dimes care where they came from

I prefer to send my hard earned money to honest people. If it is easy for them to fib about the why, then it should be easy for them to fib about what you end up with, if anything. O feedback and they want me to send a thousand dollars on cutsey half truths.....I don't think so.

Kabiye_Lady, the thing is that you can spend $200 dollars on buying a bunch of dimes that are in AG-G condition, throw in an bust dime or two and make a bs story and sell it for over $1,000 like "she" is.

My point is that it becomes a scam when the winner doesn't get the coins. Nothing more, nothing less.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...it's a duck. It may not be an "official" scam until after you burn for your thousand plus dollars, but would you risk it on the principal of innocent till proven guilty?

People will try anything on ebay and it usually works. This scam will work though and the bids just keep on going up. Whoever does this just buys up piles of excessively worn coins and sells the story, as already noted. Many, many people fall for the story and bid on anything to help her out and find out way to late they got scammed. This type of story has been around for a long time. I've seen this at flea markets where a lady has a pile of mainly men's items and tells every one a similar story. I've seen one lady doing this at least 10 times now and it works. People are just dumb.

Looks like it did work. Some chump bought it for 2,000 dollars; hopefully he learns from his stupid mistake.

Lady claimed there were over 2000 in lot but said you get 618 pieces of dimes.
Thats confusing on that. I did an check at coininfaltion to figure out how much 618 dimes are worth if you melt them down. I did the 1916 thru 1945 Mercury dime on website. This what it said worth at silver prices at 12.69

If you're planning to buy/sell 618 dime(s) when silver is priced at $12.69 / oz, expect the final total to fall between $538.95 - $595.68

2000 paid for old wore dimes that should cost 540 to 600 on those. Why would an person pay 2000 for that dime lot. It got me? Thats 1500 dollars to much. Thats bad overpriced.

Chevrolet454ss(by the way any pics of your screen name?), the reason someone over paid was because they believed the story. She starts off by saying that the 7,800 square foot house is hers. This implies that they're wealthy. She then says that the coins were stored in an album, but she took them out. This sounds like there are going to be a lot of key coins in the mix...it's possible that the whole album was completed since they were rich. She also cracked them out of the slabs, so this implies that there are either extremely rare dimes in the lot or high grade dimes. That's why someone over payed. I wonder if they are actually going to get it.

All makes little sence. If they were in Albums and slabs, why would she take them out. Why would anyone go throught the trouble of taking coins out of a slab? Lots of work, usually pieces of plastic all over the place. Entire thing sounds bogus.
