Lighting can make or break you. There is at time lighting that reflects off the rim to make a small beam on a corner of the device. If you wonder if it could be that, check to see by rotating the coin slightly. If the notch appears exactly in the same place, then it maybe a doubled die. If it goes away, it may be light from a secondary source. Always best to diffuse light to remove glare off your images. What seems like nothing in a scope can be a strong glare in an image. The best way to test it see if you are getting a secondary light source is note the glare direction and then put your hand in a position to block the light. If you see it go away, then you can block it with something or even a facial tissue hanging in the direction the unwanted light path.

Sorry guys. I'm having the worst time with lighting because the coin is sooo new. How do you add pictures in the comments? I got one of the liberty that looks like notching but I cant tell if it's just the lighting or not

No need to be sorry....our pictures were comic relief while waiting. Its hard to take pics of uncirculated coins. I still am no good at it. Try using one light source and maybe put something in front of the light to defuse it (nothing flammable :) From the extra thickness I see with the "Y" in Liberty I would say you have good chance you have a Doubled Die. I see something going on with the other letters but it is hard to tell if it is notching or lighting.

Jayman931: Have you tried a ramp. It is beneficial to direct the light into a scope. You just have to get the right angle to make the reflected into the ocular.

I have the light at 12:00 and the tallest side of the ramp at 6:00. You turn the coin and not the ramp. Works for me most of the time. Dark coins are harder though.
