The FG has the 89 signs clearly at 10X (in my opinion) and compared to several hundred of my other 88 D's looks different with the AM and FG.... So I'm just at a loss as to understand what is either wrong with the coin or what makes it identifiable as NOT an 006

Note the location and the width of the devices on the "FG":

I see 005, look how far the F is from the memorial and look how high the F is in conjunction with the G.

I know that the pic is bad but my thoughts are ware to the but of the g and a small nic to the bottom of the F make it look further. Just my opinion but the letters are fat and not rounded a clear line down on the g and the AM match very well... so if I am wrong and I'm more then willing as I'm still learning I am trying to find a clear reason its not

The way I tell if it's a 006 is the G. If the top curve is short then it's a 006 if it's long it's a 005. I found a 1988-D 006.2 awhile back https://goccf.com/t/85290

I'm going to change my opinion and agree with John, since the image is tilted, that was a tough call for me - but I often look at the bottom right of the G as well, and to me, that looks rounded. It would be extremely helpful to have a higher mag pic, but I know that can be tough. I would set that coin aside and hold on to it until you can get some more magnification.
