Looking forward to them. By the way as for the bags are they original mint bags? sealed? What years?
If yes to the first two you could always try moving them on e-bay.

I can smash my head into a wall right now. Thats just a fraction of what I received from my g'pa. I have Ikes for days, Kennedys, Susans, Sashwags, Presidents, Oh and those coin books Whitmans from the 1930's/40's. Feel like its never ending task. My G'pa started losing it and you can tell with what he was doing with the coins. Its a mess to go threw & not want to just throw coins all around and scream!
Anyhow what do you guys make of the 1960 cent?

I do not see pics of any cents.

A for tthe photos I can see...
WW with a little

Here is my advice.
Decide what type coins you want to keep. Set these aside for now.
Get some reference material, much of this can be found on the web.
If you think you have a bag or roll that might contain good varieties set it aside for now.
Locate approximate value for any item you do not want too keep. Try selling them.
Most importantly... take your time. Use the time to learn. Have fun. If you can get the family involved.

Finally: Keep us posted. (New post for each new "find". There is a grading forum as well if you are interested.

DrDon, I enjoy learning and reading what I can. I have a binder with my notes and things that I can look up if I needed! I mostly have read up on cents since it was the biggest load I needed to get down. I never thought I would be into the coins. My kids tease me about it all the time. I dont ask the familys help because they screw I around too much to help! I very thankful for everyones help answering my questions. I will try the pictures again! I found in a cent roll a 1960 silver cent. I showed it to one dealer and he was very interested in it and suggested I send it to be looked at. I read about the stripping if coin and meantionedw that. He didnt think this thst sort of thing on this cent. Trying to post them now

You are soooooo hooked.

Go ahead and join your local coin club. You don't have to give your last name (or even your real name) and you don't have to say where you live.

Welcome to Coin Community, troubledprincess. I have no trouble seeing every picture posted. The 1960 looks like a science class experiment with electroplating to me. It's a common finding from circulation, and the First Law of coin collecting is Occam's Razor.

Before you *do* anything, stop, take a few deep breaths, pour yourself a glass of wine (if you're so inclined), and sit down to contemplate the bigger picture of what you've got here. Job One is a physical list of everything. Then, over that list, item by item. Each will recommend a different course of ownership or disposition, and no decisions need be made today.

Buddy is right you know. It will not be long before you are creeping the ebay listings looking for more cool stuff. Or going to coin shows and coming home with 3 or 4 books, 1200 assorted 2x2's and a flat clinch stapler, then try to sneak it into the house so the kids won't laugh at you.

I see them if you are talking about the Lincoln Cent. First thing I would do is weigh it. With that year it should weigh 3.11 grams. If it is silver or something crazy it will weigh more. I have come across plated cents before which isn't uncommon. Also, some of the naughty kids would spray paint them lol! Here is a plated Wheat I have

troubledprincess, you mentioned robberies in your neighborhood ...(sigh) I know how it feels. I've been robbed in every home I've lived in since I was 7.

No coins were ever stolen, however. Why? Because outside of this forum and my local coin club, there are probably less than ten people who know I take this seriously. I have a paltry collection but it would break my heart if any of it went missing. So, I keep quiet about it. And the people who do know I collect think I'm just goofy about Buffalo nickels and such.
