Those were my thoughts as well. It looks sandblasted or something. Probably why it is not slabbed.

The early Walkers were struck with sandblasted dies so the graininess is not unusual. (You see the same graininess on 1916 and 1917 quarters). The problem with this coin is it has been dipped out and has lost its brilliance. It is not counterfeit in my opinion. It is overpriced though and whomever wins it is going to be severely disappointed when it comes back from the TPG no better than MS60 or in a Net graded holder.

Always remember that NICE coins that command big bucks will get even bigger bucks when they are slabbed --- dealers know this. Most raw nice looking coins on ebay are not in slabs because the Seller darn well knows they will not grade because of cleaning, over dipping or other problems.

When bidding on expensive raw coins ask your Seller for an extended return period so YOU can send it in. If your Seller refuses the extension then YOU know the coin has problems and the Seller is just trying to unload his mistake on someone else ---- YOU!

I'd still hand in the divorce and don't buy this coin

I suspect it's been dipped.

The 1909 S listed as "GEM BU FULL RED" has been cleaned. A - Lincoln is rather shiny and B - look at the haze/shadow around all of the high to field surfaces.
