According to ICCS they will not designate any new variety unless Charlton publishes it first... Trust me I know this those were Brians exact words to me on a very rare discovery 1870 8 over 5 dime......

Are you able to post pictures of the coin. I find it a little hard to believe no one had discovered this variety yet if it is as obvious as you say it is. Unless of course yours is very rare or unique.

Good one---you got me rushing to my picture catalogs to see how many slipped by unnoticed. Whew--what a relief it was!

Well, I thought that the XF40 PCGS-CAC would be the first giveaway, since CAC doesn't grade non-U.S. coins, to my knowledge. And then, I thought surely overmonarch was, well, over the top. Those who got had, don't feel bad. There were some professional numismatists with many years' experience who took the bait as well. One said, "Check the 5 on the coin, it might be a 3 under there if my hunch is correct." Another said, "Maybe it's struck over an already struck coin?" Anyway, I hope you all had a nice April Fool's Day. I am one of the most gullible people in the world so it was nice to turn the tables for once. Best Regards, George
