I've never accepted an offer outside of ebay but after reading this post I may start. Has anyone used Ubid? The seller application is pretty involved but I don't see where they disclose on site their fee's; may not be worth the hassle.

95% of those offers are scams. With that said, I'd report every single one of them.

Bobby you clearly don't know what you're talking about. I sell more stuff off ebay (via ebay) than through ebay. As long as you do it via Paypal invoice you're fine.

I would NEVER report someone trying to save me money. People can send me money through Paypal "personal" all day long. I am more than happy to end an auction early if it has no bids. Anytime I can take a cut out of ebay's and PayPig's pie I am more than ready, willing and able to do it. If you do your due diligence you won't have a problem. I'm at the point now that I do more business off ebay with people that I originally met on ebay. That's pretty cool and ebay can't do a darn thing about it!

I have had more issues through ebay purchases than direct paypal invoice. Late last year I had a fraudster pull "oh the box came damaged." Sent out another box of $1000 Ikes...they were "seized by law enforcement." Riiiiight. I didn't lose any money but it opened my eyes to scammers. Apparently, these fraudsters pulled this too much b/c a detective let it slip that the Secret Service was going after them.

I don't think this thread is going quite the way Domain555 expected, oh well. I too don't have a problem doing business outside of ebay for coins. I've been on both ends of this, buyer and sell and have had good experiences so far. For me, it's definitely the exception and not the rule so I don't think ebay is getting hurt much.

I've purchased coins off ebay when suggested by the seller and have had easy transactions every time. The purchaser is trying to save both parties money so I don't see the harm. Nor do I see the point in some sort of "loyalty" someone has in tattling to a large faceless corporation.

ebay has it's rules. Don't like it, I suggest you find another venue. Just remember, there are as many scammers on ebay as there are legit folks. Such is life. I have done transactions outside of ebay so I'm not innocent. There is no buyer protection though and I have been saved by that on a few occasions.

To answer your question Domain, go here: http://ocsnext.ebay.com/ocs/cusr?query=1481 and it will walk you through reporting the listing. I am assuming it has either a multiple choice of why you're reporting so you can specify your reason, or a note section where you can say you received that offer in your ebay messaging. I've never done a report like this so I don't know for sure. ebay page with explanation: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies...ay-sale.htmlQuote: I don't think this thread is going quite the way Domain555 expected, oh well. It isn't going the way I expected either - he asked a simple question, and everyone's replies are all about the morality of it? Really? It's against ebay's rules - very simple. If you do it, you open yourself up to potential fraud at the least. But I don't see Domain asking for opinions on everyone's views on reporting, he asked how to do so. Since when are you all the Morality Police, anyway? Quote: Bobby you clearly don't know what you're talking about. I may not have many posts showing but I've been around here a while. Bobby131313 has had more listings and dealings with ebay than you can shake a stick at - years worth of buy/sell/counterfeit reporting/websitemastering stuff, and that's only the stuff I've read about while I've lurked here for years. He's probably learned more about interacting with them than many of us ever will. So I hope that foot tastes good.

Quote:It's against ebay's rules - very simple. If you do it, you open yourself up to potential fraud at the least. Thats really not true. The risk is the exact same as using ebay and it can actually be a lot less depending how you complete the transaction. As a seller make them send a money order or cash before shipping and the problems solved. As a buyer pay with paypal. Paypal offers the real protection since theyre the ones with youre money. Neither paypal or ebay are particularly seller friendly in the resolution process which is what has chased away seller after seller after seller. Its one thing to favor one side, but for the longest time it was just "oh youre the seller youre wrong we dont need to see any facts". Ebays objection to circumventing the site has 0 to do with protecting anyone and everything to do with just getting their fees. They allow you to accept credit card payments on your own as a merchant or have items get picked up in person. They just want their cut thats it, they try and justify that by selling the idea that if they arent involved its somehow going to be fraud. Is every sale here going to be fraud because ebay isn't involved? No one told him how to do it because no one agrees with reporting someone for asking a simple question. Now theyll be reported and get suspended and probably just stop using ebay all together chasing away a coin buyer which did nothing but hurt ebay sellers. I wouldnt tell someone where the nearest payphone was either if they told me they needed to know to tell the police about a jaywalker.

Great thread... Inhave several ebay sellers that I have purchased coins through there ebay store. And in most of the packaging is a pricelist or a website offering the same coins from there own personal websites, I dont see any problem with that and it allows me to do my favorite thing shop coin shops I would never get to..and due ue to either getting whooped on a auction or not having the funds when a coin is auctioned off it gives me a second chance to acquire a similiar coin and I have also made some awesome friendships and gained numismatic knowledge. Latest example the make offer option..instead of playing the electronic dicker game I will message a seller and ask him his minimum. If we agree boom done instant pay and a certain amount of personal is added to the transaction. Dont be afraid to message or be messaged dont attempt to defraud anyone live right count your blessings and enjoy the hobby...this should be fun and more or less one or both of the parties will be a better person for it... I thank every seller for the auction for there time posting the auction and for shipping the items to me.. This is a labor of love for me..and by golly I intend on enjoying this hobby all the way through and until my collection is complete and I have to wait for the annual mint releases.

Interesting topic and some seem to be to one extreme ( the heck with eBay/PP ) or the other ( the OP wanting to know how to tattle on someone trying to cut out the middle men ). I'm no fan of the middle man so I would not narc on someone but if you are worried about their honesty then it is fully fine to tell them you aren't interested and want the protection of doing it all above board with ebay. I am in between the two extremes. I'd be wary of a newbie seller offering something on the side. But once a relationship has been established ( via a purchase on or off ebay ), with a semi-high profile seller or one that has their own website, I typically will from then on contact the seller by email with offers ( typically starting at 10% below the ebay listing at the very MOST ) even if the coin is ONLY LISTED on ebay. Particularly with sellers that have their own websites or post their coins on several sites ( Collector's Corner for instance ) as well as ebay. You can get at least a 10% discount - via check - and they net the same profit. Haggling via email is no worse than via ebay's BO system, IMO. You can also "bundle"/combine offers this way and obviously some sellers will give better prices on a 2,3,4 coin deal than on only one. I do still get "surprised" when I see coins on a dealer's own website listed for MORE than the same coin is listed on ebay. I don't understand their logic of offering for less on a site they have to pay fees than on one they will keep all of the selling $ instead ( save for cc/PP but I mostly send checks to save them that fee as well which again usually means 3% less on my offer ). I don't blame anyone for wanting the safety net, just think it is absurd to narc on others when there is nothing to be gained - it isn't like ebay will reward you! LOL I recently had trouble with a coupon they gave me, and for my trouble(didn't work for days and they said to keep trying every 2 hours - for 6 days? ) - what worthless customer support - I got a replacement coupon for the exact same amount and even less days before it would expire for the trouble. THANKS A WHOLE LOT for wasting my time and then rewarding me with NOTHING for the trouble! Adding a little to the coupon woulda bankrupted them? IDIOTS!
