I remember viewing the image also prior to being removed, showing that it was "Registered", and my question would be;
"Why did the person (assuming it was a Postal Employee) that delivered this Registered Envelope to it's listed address, and seeing it was tampered with, not first report it to his/her Local Post Master before delivery?"...
If this were me, I would be speaking with the Post Master in person with envelope in hand.

The OP is in Israel. Once registered mail leaves its country of origin it is no longer handled as registered mail. Registered mail sent to another country is asking to be stolen in the destination country. In the last year I have had five items not arrive that were sent registered mail into the US from other countries. Not a single item sent regular mail has ever gone missing. That is one of the problems with ebay's system. In orfer to get seller protection you have to send registered mail but sending registered mail overseas increases the odds of it being stolen in the system.

Quote: The OP is in Israel. Once registered mail leaves its country of origin it is no longer handled as registered mail I remember taking a quick glance and noticed it was registered, not noticing it was out of the States. I sold my last coin on ebay back in April 2006, and used Global Priority for all overseas transactions. I recently used ebay to purchase 2 error notes and can't believe the changes they made since 2006... I was considering going back on ebay to sell again, and find it impossible for PayPal to re-open my account without me first giving them access to my bank account information. For some reason paypal claims I had exceeded their $10,000.00 Limit when I was registered with them and can only use their service with my banking info on file.. Lessons were learned 8 years back when both accounts were hacked into, I wouldn't trust any Internet site with my personal bank account information, at-least with a credit card you have some protection... I thank the sellers that take c/cards & money orders.

You might get lucky that some knuckle Head might try and sell it on ebay or another site. I would notify them and see what happens. Will be on the lookout for it.

I can't quite dismiss the idea from my mind that the seller himself or his employee may have done this, and thus avoid suspicion.
I also can't obviously see how a postal employee would guess that there would have been a banknote inside the envelope, unless X-ray detection was used.
Actually, it is illegal in Australia to send banknotes through the postal system. I have to admit however, I have sent banknotes to the 'States for payment of small amounts on trust, thus avoiding fees. I do not know if it is illegal or not to send banknotes through the postal system within the 'States.
Perhaps in this case, it would have been better to package the note between two pieces of cardboard, then wrap in aluminum foil before sealing in an envelope or placing in a mailer bag. The note would then avoid X-ray detection, especially if the "100" has a metallic element to it, or there is a metallic thread embedded within the note.
It also helps if coins are inside a square shaped foil wrap for the same reason.

The OP has pasted this on another discussion board which is frequented by the seller. The seller is a very well-respected collector and dealer in the United States. The speculation that the seller or one of his employees had something to do with this is way off base.

Sel, is it really illegal to send banknotes to and through Australia? I should revise my business practices. Any link to said law\statute? I have to ask what is the logic in that? What are they trying to avert?
