I am no expert

but I pulled out some 2009-d comparisons I pulled out 3 denver mint sets 3 bus from in my danscos and one out of a ziplock full of circulated out of the 180 all had same. Even the mint set was same as business strike

Yes OcalaFlorida all your 180 dime 2009-D are close A T on STATES?

Before I post this coin, already compare to others but it seems none like this so far for this year.

I assumed that... was just adding my stats incase your sample size was small

As not everyone but more then a few members here have a few rolls of most random date or mint mark coins laying around.

Also encase you only looked at a few business strikes, you would also see that the denver mint set coins and ones pulled from obw where all the same.

And of coarse you might need a sample size of several members looking at several thousand to find another so keeping stats is usually a bonus.

And the pictures were added to show that all devices looked thicker even on a worn circulated example.

I think what you may be seeing on the "wide" AT dime is the result of heavy die polishing thinning the lettering making them further apart at the base.

This was an over polished die. It is the same thing when people feel they have found a Wide AM Lincoln. It is very common really.

I am not sure what coop is seeing in this coin. To me, with the narrowing of the lettering, it is obvious. The mint was trying to extend the life of this die a little too long.

Looked around a bit on this one. The Denver and San Francisco mint reverses were the same design on this year.

On bkh2015's coin the design looks different, but considering the location the devices, you can see they were thinned. Not from die wear, but from the die's outer surface (The fields) were polished down. When the die surface is removed to remove a die gouge/dent, the devices get thinner looking. I've seen this on a few dies before. But that is what I see. I wanted to make sure I knew more before have the owner throw it back into circulation. (But I would still save it.)

Here is a 1968 cent where the field was removed so much to cover clashes that the 1 is almost missing:

Note the overall size was reduced of that digit because the depth was removed from the top of the die.
Here is an example where the outside edge field was reduced and reduced the size of the devices, just in that area. Not on the whole die.

Note that even on these devices, the ones closest to the rim were affected the most.

Coop, this is the same thing that has happened when people feel they have found a Wide AM, or are curious about the varying distances between the A and M on Close AM cents, correct?
