Very sad fate for those Franklins

At least the sell was honest enough to mention AT.

Based on my knowledge of chemical treatments to get that finish these may have been exposed to hydrogen cyanide, or hopefully instead hydrogen sulphate. Hydrogen cyanide is nasty stuff but makes metals look cool

Ouch!

The auction closed with no bidders. Wonder if he'll drop the price a bit. $1k seems a bit much for $700 of junk.

I am what you call an old school kind of guy. I HATE this generation and what they are doing with everything they come into contact with. This generation is obsessed with toning and they will do anything to get that toning. And believe it or not this generation will pay big bucks for toned coins even if they arent natural. A lot of people love toned coins, including myself but I'm talking about the un-natural toning people do is very "in" right now with this current generation. They dont care if its natural or not. It looks "kool" and "awesome". Check out ebay for yourself and see what these idiots are doing to our coins. Both bullion and numismatics are being destroyed by this ridiculous fake toning.

Maybe when I hit 1500 posts I'll change it. Usually I change my avatar every 500 posts (not on purpose, it just happens that way). Lol "brocephus"...I'm the whack job 'Raymo? Kidding!

Arguably, it's only the newbs of this generation that this appeals to. Show a 16 year old who's been "collecting" for 2 months an AT coin, they'll probably say "Ooh shiny! Me like." Show it to 16 year old who has been seriously collecting for several years an AT coin, they won't like it. It's all a matter of experience. The ebay sellers who carry ridiculous artificially toned coins are only peddling to the ignorant, not coin collectors that know what they're doing.

Auction was to steep for my blood. Like Celtic said they're only worth $700 at melt. What was done to the coins merits only melt value. I think that he definitely ruined any numismatic value they may have had.

He'd have to drop the price significantly before I'd show any interest.

what a horrible thing to do to these coins. should have gotten a roll of quarters at the bank for $10 and destroyed those instead of these franklins. god it makes me sick just looking at them
