I'm not sure what you are planning to buy or sell there, but I would suggest the smaller bag the better. Just putting most things you buy in your pockets should be enough space. If you're buying large things (like books, folders, etc.) then I'd wait to buy until just before you leave or bring large items outside to your car (hidden in the trunk) and then go back into the show.
Don't bring large bags or books to the show unless you keep then away from the dealers products. Covering their tables with your items is an easy way to be observed (in not a good way) by the dealers.

some of the bigger shows pass out bags, usually running out after the first day, so having a bag is fine..as stated how you handle that bag is what matters

I go to pretty large shows and a backpack is fine. When looking at a dealers table, I always wear the backpack on both shoulders just to give the dealer piece of mind.
If it's a dealer I know, he doesn't mind what I do.

I just don't like carrying things around in my pockets, for fear of scratching. Maybe a smaller shoulder bag would work well. |

I suggest never taking a back pack. At one show I go to they are not allowed and a security person will tell people with them to take them out to their car or just leave. If you think about it if the show is large enough to have an small aisle, then people will constantly bump into your back pack. At some of the lesser neighborhood type places it is easy to place a GPS device in your back pack. Favorite thing for criminals so they can track where you live later. Also, easy to take things out since you'll be bumped so often, you would never know what is happening back there. At two of the shows I go to they are either suggested to leave at home or in the car. They are just not popular in crowded places. I have seen people going to a security person and mentioning a person with one creating an Aisle blockage.
It is so much easier to simply take a carry type bag of some type. I usually just use a camera bag. Easy to carry and never gets in anyone's way. A back pack is possibly the worst thing you could carry at any place where it can get bumped over and over. AND as I said, you just don't know what is happening back there.

Thanks, just carl. That's what I was thinking- a smaller shoulder-carry bag, but not a backpack. Makes sense.

I usually carry a small cash box with me at shows. I always open or close it in sight of the dealer. I usually take out my shopping list, have it closed and locked while looking at coins, and only re-open it after I have made my purchase.

I recommend shorts/pants with plenty of pockets. Large packs or bags are a nuisance to other attendees and dealers. They can also be a tempting treat for any "snatchers", a lot of shows attract scumbags who are only there to rip people off....perhaps a downfall of free admission.

Thanks, all. I was mostly asking hypothetically, because I don't have any big shows on my calendar for a while (none close by). I'll take all this into consideration, though, and maybe will try pants with lots of pockets. I do see how a backpack or bag could be a nuisance, especially if it's too big.

Been to a couple dozen shows, from 25 tables @ the VFW to ANA. Never been asked not to bring in my bag or backback. I go commando ...I took bag once and it is hard to turn around at the more crowded tables. I didn't hit anyone but it felt like driving a semi in Manhattan traffic at times. I now use cargo pants/shorts I put 2x2's into cut album sheets I place them into small used bubble mailers and have cardboard cut into size so you can separate slabbed coins coins. I carry a little note book with what I am looking for a pen and 3 loupes. I also carry some tubes with bubble wrap and cotton for spacers. just as safe as mailing it. btw one pocket is supplies the other is for the coins and stays buttoned up.  Edited by OcalaFlorida

Good idea! I didn't think about using cut album sheets and pieces of bubble mailers. If it works for mailing, it should work for carrying! Thanks, OcalaFlorida.
