OK this is weird. I realized that in my head I pronounce ANACS as "ay-naks"

Your not weird. Maybe because you are from Massachusetts that gave you the dialect. "Go paak yor caa soo we can paty."
My home town was Worcester, or Woosta.
Wheatchaser, if you really want to confuse them, ask what a "quahaug"
is.

Lol, I know it as Wooshter. It gets worse when you try to say Worchestershire Sauce.

I immediately knew what this is. Confirmed New Englander here! 😁

I guess the real question is, are you supposed to say "ANACS" like it's spelled or say it like it's a word?

I say it Ann-Axe.

But its an acronym, so it probably doesn't matter. I don't try to pronounce NGC as a word.

Here's an old archived thread on the subject.

The consensus back in 2008 was that, while "a-nacks" and "ann-axe" were both acceptable pronunciations, "A.N.A.C.S." (five syllables, rhymes with "Anastasius") was not; since ANACS is no longer a meaningful acronym, it should not be pronounced as one.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Better yet offer to sell them a quahaug pearl.

I have only ever seen one, and another on a TV show about people who found treasures at thrift stores. They're gaumy lookin things.

I pronounce it "Ann-ex". I think in the general most people's pronunciation (Including yours) is very similar.
