Seems to be some scratches. I don't think it graded problem free. Details wise, AU-55 or higher, possibly MS.

I'm at AU55 with a possible cleaning.

I angled it a little. Just a brutal coin to photo. Sorry

AU-55. Although I don't think the scratch is bad enough for a details grade it still takes away a bit from the eye appeal of the coin.

Westcoin might be onto something. the devices on the reverse do have some PR quality to them. The pics are so hard to call this coin. i'll just sit back and wait for the reveal.

Westcoin was the closest. Awesome. I searched NGC and this is the only AU58, PCGS has one and ANACS has one. Also a few AU55 in there. It was the only way I would be able to afford a proof Half Dime. Thanks for all your insight and sorry again for photos.

Westcoin...what were your determining factors leading you to proof? Was it the sharpness of the devices?

The denticle screamed proof to me. So I checked a couple of other proofs, they all have very distinct denticles like the one Fayette1800 posted. I surely though the grade would be higher than it was, but you win some and you loose some. Most of the proofs I found were either PR61/62 or PF66/67. I didn't think they were really all that expensive (relatively). The price on Proof 1871 Half Dimes seemed to be at or under $500 for the low end proof grades.
