I agree with Coop again. Local coin shops cannot tell you the difference in a variety and an error. Folks like Coop here on the forum are your best bet when looking for help. I have a few decades of work to catch up with Coop, but I have committed myself in learning and teaching as much as possible. The more we spread the word about this fun part of the hobby will only help in raising the values of the gems we seek.

Ask all the questions you want, but if you truly want to learn, I found that spending hours on Coppercoins and working on identifying the varieties myself was not only the best way to learn, but the most satisfying.

The markers are interesting, you have to focus your eyes just right to see them.

An overlay of date and mint mark is a dead on match. So it is 1972D-1DO-002. Nice find.

Thats awesome, thanks coop... What quality is the penny in, in your opinion? And the values on that website are probably pretty accurate I expect. Not worth a whole lot but is still pretty cool. :)
