to assist your research, keep an eye out for a copy the standard catalogue, published by Monsieur GADOURY.

Okay I spent too much time on this tonight putting it into a spreadsheet and looking up info on sites like Numista and I came up with this (too bad I can't just attach the spreadsheet file, so here are screenshots):

Centimes:

20th-Century-French-Type-Set?

Francs
20th-Century-French-Type-Set?

Circulating Commemorative Francs
20th-Century-French-Type-Set?

If anyone wants to give any corrections or additions, please do. The Diameter column was me hoping there would be a lot of overlap and I could build a custom album with blank mm sized openings. But there is a lot of variation in the early dates, so that's probably not going to work well.

You might want to look here for additional info as there are also patterns (Essai): http://www.cgb.fr/boutique,modernes.html

And while not a French type set, my 'Marianne' themed collection does include quite a few French coins of course!

Hello,
You may also have a look at this site: http://www.lefranc.net
You will find there all circulating issues of the franc.

I probably have 95+ % of the 20th century french type coins, not counting gold.

I have found most of these in junk boxes or from bulk lots.

I occasionally pick up coins back to the 1st Empire or before but they are less common to find cheaply.

One site I have bookmarked that I found helpful was:
http://www.lesfrancs.com/french_franc.html

I like that they are grouped by period with pictures.

Your set will include the latter half of 3rd Republic - Euro.

I just noticed this post and am a bit late to the discussion, but I have found Numista to be a great source of finding a country's type coins. You can filter out the non-circulating ones. One problem is that they don't always list the sub types, for example look at KM#904, but you can get the vast majority of the information from them.

ok, so I have a slightly different problem. I have a bunch of French Euro 5c coins. Is there an album that arranges them by year like a whitman does for the US nickels?

Hi paveltul - I go to France quite a lot and I've only seen albums designed to hold complete sets of euro coins and for commemorative 2 euros.

Something like this:

There's always room to create digital coin albums if you are willing to spend the time and effort...

Hello, I recently made a post asking talking about something very similar and also copied @tkbslc post about the type list he made. Here is the link to my type set so far http://goccf.com/t/418786. Ive added a lot to it since I made the post but I would like to share photos as well soon on my post. I love the french coins other than my large US collection, they just made such pretty coins. One day it would be fun to do the same for Italy.
