Excuse my ignorance but are older Canadian notes still legal tender?

To my knowledge any Bank of Canada note remain legal tender forever. Not sure about the notes printed before (chartered bank notes).

Great find! I'm pretty sure all notes and coins made for Canada and the Provinces of Canada (or British colonies of Canada) are still legal tender. I'll certainly pay face value any of those! lol!

I wonder, suppose a time traveler travels from the 30s to today, and tries to spend a dollar bill, what will happen? How many people will recognise the banknote and not say it's some foreign note?

I've come back to Canada last month and pretty much going around to get stuff done since I'm getting a new dentist here (it will take too long if I only wait when I get back to Indonesia to do my braces). I picked these up at the TD near Sheppard and Warden.

I think the consecutive $2s might be from someone's collection since they're so crisp and shiny without any folds, stains or holes. As for the not-so-good ones, I'll just dump them on an unsuspecting cashier. >:)

These are getting cashed all the time. Unless they are Gems no one really cares. Probably a coin dealer or flea market guy cashed them in.

The 5s aren't probably worth much over face with obvious wallet folds like that, and I'm just going to slowly release them back to circulation or sell them to my friends who are interested. I'm not keeping them all since $100 is about 11 million Rupiahs in Indonesia and 20k (C$1.81 to you) is the limit of "small money" (about someone's daily allowance in junior high).

The consecutive $2s are the interesting ones. The rest not really.

I wish I could be more like you Slur... I have such a hard time getting rid of my "rescued" money.... I think it's great that you have such discerning tastes in collecting at such an early age.... Keep what's interesting or the best of the lot ... until you find an upgrade...

Great haul Slur! ... I'm a bit envious.. I love those 5's!! And my favourite note is the 50's from this series!

I'm actually making a small profit off the coins I've accumulated. If I could expand into bills, it would be pretty good. I think I'm more reluctant to hold on too much because I still think back to Rupiah and if I make a purchase here it might be a few hundred thousand there. I've also promised myself that I would stop hoarding so I'll just keep the best ones.

When I spend these bills I wait when there's a younger, preferably immigrant cashier, because confused people are rather amusing.

Ag, if you like, PM me and we could arrange a trade.

Yes, That is a nice haul. I particularly like that series, the $50 being especially nice with the Mountie reverse.

I've only seen a specimen $50 before (in the Indonesian Bank museum) and it's got holes punched on it. The most colourful note I have seen in person so far but it was a bit dim in the room to see it well.

Nice finds ... I'm enjoying all of them and hopeful you can convert a portion of this stash into something lovely for your collections.
