Thank you Art, I appreciate the welcome sign! When I originally pulled it out of the whitman holder, I thought it may have been a planchet flaw, the flow lines on the gap is similar to nickel planchet flaws caused by metal impurity. I also had a 1904 half that had a portion broken away on the reverse by the date (sad) and the lines looked very similar. I should also point out that there is rust/abnormal oxidization in the gap, not consistent with what one would see on nickel metal. After furthur inspection, I was lead to believe that it was more likely an ejection clip, due to the size of the groove, same size as one of the sides of a multi sided collar. Again, please do not confuse this with a clipped planchet. Ejection clips do not show the blakesley effect because the coin has already been struck once, and upon ejection is double struck, sometimes making a nice double strike, and sometimes the piece is sheared off. I have seen many disregard a clip because there is no blakesley effect. But, there are 2 types of clips, one before the coin is struck, and the second type happens on the way out of the dies. I am leaving this to spp-Ottawa for inspection in person. if he believes it's not genuine, I will happily agree and I offer my apologies to those that have lost faith in our business. Again, this was not our intention. Out of curiosity, does anyone have a picture of an ejection clip on a multi sided nickel, and or a nickel metal major planchet flaw caused from metal impurity/improper smelting? Someone brought up filing or a dermal tool, but I don't believe this gap looks like it was created by a tool of sorts due to the flow of the metal. For posterity, I will again bring attention to the oxidization, it's been there for a very long time. *fixed spelling errors, typing on iPhone on the bus, bumpy* Thank you

Quote: You say that you sent me a message? Why don't you post it? I have saved every message received over the years, and there is not one message from him. He did however offer me 2 dollars with free shipping on the 2011 loon token. But there is no message, therefore there is no response. Sorry but I don't keep my messages longer than needed. As soon as an item has ended to my satisfaction the message is erased. Once I was blocked from your listings, I would have removed the message. My question to you is, where did you get these tokens that you paid $3 for (more than one as you had multiples listed)? Was it at the mint, as I am guessing? If so, how could you sleep at night claiming it to be a rare piece as was stated in your listing that you had not seen before? Seems like a shady business practice to me. How can you justify putting such highly inflated prices? You suggest that it gives you room, people are free to make offers. What about people that do not know any better, and are either just starting in the hobby or purchasing a gift for someone? It seems (it may not be the case) as though you are banking on uninformed buyers to purchase these items so that you can make a killing off of them. Like I said in my other post, some of your items are priced quite fairly, but the other items are out to lunch. BTW, you have a great skill when it comes to photographing your coins. Probably the best on ebay.

Welcome to CCF "A fare well to arms" I think as far as the clip goes its PMD for a number of reasons, too many to mention right now. IMO As a past satisfied customer I appreciate seeing you here at CCF if your going to sell error coins then this is the place to post the ones your not sure of prior to selling. Posting here can save on the frustration of negitive feedback on the bay. Glad to hear you got SPP looking at the clip.

Thank you agcoinau, just learning the site here. Not sure how to send pm yet if you can send me one, please do. In regards to having knowledge, I'm learning as I go, spp-Ottawa is the one to go to for finite answers (he should really start a business) I'd buy his stock. Here is one of the struggles I face selling in Manitoba to Manitobans, because we are a registered bussiness, we have to collect 8% PST (May rise by the looks of it) for the Provence. also, the federal 5%GST is applicable. It's ironic, but you're better buying out of province because an out of Provence registered business, it's only 5% GST for Manitoba residents, or out of country, tariffs are rarely collected, or, better yet, non registered sellers. I'm just being honest. I also can't sell out of my residence due to city by laws and also the wife put an end to that quick, but everything is shipped for free, with the odd exception of large cased types of items and antiques. Middross, I have explained the business model. And with all risks taken into consideration, unfortunately, this is in my opinion is the only model that works to have a profitable enterprise on said venue. An analogy, why is bread 4 dollars a loaf at safeway while it's 1.69 at superstore? Do we question and shame Safeway for the inflated prices? We don't, we just don't go there, we would buy from superstore. In regards to the token, it was selling in live auction for up to 75$ at the time. Of course I purchased them at the mint fr 3$. I still have them listed. To reiterate, I did not get a question from you, I got an offer for 2$, and that offer carried no response. Would you deal with yourself? As a seller in this market, I heed all concerns, like the nickel, why it's not listed, despite what I believe. but there are huge fish to fry. A couple days ago, I saw a seller offering a Chinese fake 1926, far, of which he removed after I politely messaged him numerous times and reported it numerous times, ebay no longer cares, get it? A highly respected individual with the initials MM can attest to that. Also, I should add, that same ebay member sold a questionable 1926 d Buffalo nickel. Aside from counterfeits, we also have the RCM that has no wish to protect its customers, and continues to turn its heads to the flood of fakes coming from china, including brand new nclt releases. Showed employee at the mint the website selling this garbage, their response "oh that's neat". Furthermore, they have completely diluted their previous offerings by spinning out more and more questionable product with little value on the backs of its customers and the canadian taxpayer. Am I mad? Yeah, but it's on me, I bought and I own it. Please allow me to be candid, but as I'm sure many are aware, parts of the market are collapsing nclt especially. Everyone knows it, it's frustrating, but I bought it and I need to get my money out, weather a little or a lot. My hope is that buyers and sellers can have a "were on the same team" mentality. The fact is, I want to sell and you want to buy and visa versa. But I can't do that with hostility. That's a deal breaker. For smaller sellers like myself on the big venue, there is a storm coming due to their new updates, and am not confident that it will be a viable business option in the near future. I suspect, for many here, myself included, will not be there in the months/years to come. I appreciate your kind words middross. as to me being ashamed or how I sleep at night, I have no shame, my customers are happy and great, I am blessed, I offer immediate purchase/offer, no chasin auctions, they get what they wanted with same day shipping. This is how I feed my family, and when I go to sleep, some nights I sleep on my side, sometimes on my back, likely the same as you. Thanks again, Dave

Dave, if it was an ejection clip, there would be an offset of metal on the reverse; an analogy is the Law of Conservation of Mass... for metal to deform that deep on the obverse, it has to go somewhere, it would have severely deformed the reverse on the opposite side, or the reverse would have been flattened by the force, before being sheared off. Secondly, the collar is not excessively deep, so what actually caused that shear? I ask that, because it could not be the collar itself. Even double struck coins sitting on the collar, don't get sheared off in that fashion (think of that 2008 cent you sold me, pictured here). Metal for coins is very is malleable (from annealing), and not brittle. Lastly, the marks you see inside the "clip" are not consistent with sheared nickel - it looks filed. Dave, I'll happily examine it in hand for you, and can even share it with other error experts at Coin Expo (if you get it to me before Oct 2) - but I still think my initial interpretation of post-mint damage is the right one. For the rest of you - Errors, and learning about error coins, is a steep learning curve. Not all dealers can afford the time to learn about these, and often have to buy and sell lots of coins that contain "anomalies". This is not necessarily done intentionally. Try thinking from the other side of the table to put things in perspective. Lastly, Quote: SPP-Ottawa: I know that seller, he is a good dealer. Quote: middross: I don't know this seller personally but would have to disagree with this statement. I gave, and I still stand behind, my original opinion; you don't have to agree with me (nor anyone else); you are entitled to your own opinion. Frankly, I personally disagree with the title of this thread, because it is excessively misleading and possibly a defamatory statement.

Thanks penny man:) thank you for your business in the past and please do come again. I appreciate your opinions and the vote is in, it's not genuine. I can't argue with this democracy.
Spp, that was a remarkable find, as I mentioned to you, and will share with others, that was right at the end of the sealed roll with that nub sticking out of the plastic, didn't know how great it was goig to be.
I'll send this nickel to you. Can you test it? Does anyone have a pic of a multi sided nickel ejection clip, or major planchet flaw on a nickel? I want to see the flow lines of the metal.
For fun, set an old nickel on the table, press down on the edge, it raises at a 45 degree angle, while most other coinage won't raise at all under pressure. I think we can both agree, nickel is a much harder metal than steel/copper/zinc, the later more likely to pinch rather than shear. I ask this not in defence of myself, but do wonder what a multi sided nickel with an ejection clip looks like, and weather the damage is similar compared to its penny or softer metal counterpart?
Thanks everyone, got some mailing to do here, will send that nickel for your viewing this aft. If in fact it's nothing, spend it on some gummy bears or use it as a specimen for reference. please view it in hand for possible metal impurity/flaw also.
Dave

@ SPP, I based this title on the little knowledge I had of the seller. 1) a couple of years ago, the seller was listing something as something they knew very well it was not. 2) The coin in question (this is all in the past now, so lets start fresh). I wouldn't go as far to say that it is defamatory, as this would assume that there isn't any truth to what I said. After hearing from Dave on this issue, I would be happy to retract my statement about him being a scam artist, but still don't agree with some of his pricing (to which he is free to do as he pleases as long as the items are being accurately describe). I will contact a mod to see if we can change the title of this thread to something more appropriate. @ Dave, I would like to apologize for insulting you. I sometimes get a little hot about people taking advantage of others on ebay, as you do as well based on your previous post. You are right. There are much bigger issues at hand and we should all be working together to make ebay a better and safer place for collectors to buy. I wish you luck on your endeavors and hope that the fall of NCLT with all of the copies doesn't hurt you too much, and you can keep food on the table. PS. SPP does have an ebay store. It is filled with all sorts of wonders (most of which are far to nice for my collection). Click the ebay symbol above his name to visit it.

@ Dave, as SPP mentioned Errors, and learning about error coins, is a steep learning curve.
This forum is a great place to ask questions to learn about what you may or may not have. If you are ever unsure, put up some pictures and someone will usually be along very quickly.
