Lovely find! It's always great feeling when you find something so unexpected out of somewhere that you'd expect the least.
Oh, I am loving that natural toning, adds real nice character to it.

Well this goes down as the awesomest story of the day! kind of like my 3-cent nickel from circulation a month ago.

What a great discovery! That toning adds a little something to the appeal, don't you think?

Very nice AU example. As others have commented ... visually attractive natural toning.

Nice find that you had forgotten about.

The weird thing is, I have absolutely no idea how it got there. My house was built in the 1980s, so it couldn't have been left there around the time it was minted. Plus it was in my things. I've only gotten two half dollars in change for my entire life (born in '98, probably didn't start using money until a little after that lol).

My late grandfather was the only collector in the family, and he gave me an Italian coin before he died, and there were no commemoratives in the lot I inherited from him. I definitely didn't buy it, I used to collect exclusively from circulation until about a year ago, and like I said, only received two half dollars in my entire life from circulation.

I've talked to my family, and we ruled out absolutely everything. I'm completely stumped on how this coin got there, and I'm a little creeped out too.
Rest in Peace

That's a nice surprise!

I can think of a lot of ways that coin ended up in your possession -- none of them creepy -- depending upon what else was in the box.

It's entirely possible that your grandfather gave it to you when you were too young to recognize it as a coin.

Isn't it great to find coins that we have hidden from ourselves? :)

Very nice!

You have a mysterious benefactor. I would not expect them to own up to it.

Dude, if you're gonna complain about it this much, I'll take it off your hands. I just want you to be at ease.
