I believe the OP knew all the answers to his questions when he posted except for value. How much did you pay 47P7? Serious variety collectors never ever pay anything close to book value. It's all about the thrill of the hunt.

DBM,you are right. But as you noticed, others had no idea. And many more collectors still are not aware. I knew that, so I thought to start something interesting and posted it. what did I pay? I think it is fair to say that I paid what you would love to pay for it. the coin was covered with the typical Vicky crud and the Variety was not visible. yes, it took some warm water and some hawthorns to discover the actual treasure. I am aware that it is a more pricy coin in nearly any grade.
Devlec,
I have that book. I also have a standby in case the 1st one gets worn out.
I would love to trade my coin for Zonads. he has a built in radar for finding scarce varieties.Nobody beats him.
Perhaps someone would like to start a "show your large Vicky Cent post?" could be interesting.
Nybird, I have tried the Dr. Haxby numbers etc. But can not get acquainted with them.
SlureEx, how old is your book? For these prices, I would let you just hold the coin for 10 minutes. lolololololo

Not my book, my library doesn't update their coin books (but thankfully they update their RCNA journals) and their newest Charlton is 1988. They got Zoell editions 1-3. I have a digital copy of 3rd edition part 1 (part 2 is too thick, I may get to it later but it's not going to be high res) and still scanning the 2nd. If anyone is interested I can try uploading it somewhere. I will get the first one later, maybe very later because the book is stored off-campus.

Sorry guys, I keep forgetting not to share these stuff publicly. Still kinda used to a society where everyone can photocopy anything then use that photocopy for anything they like. Yes, even entire textbooks! First time, I was pretty confused why they would not print the ebook textbook here.
Devlec, I was a bit vague up there but meant I wouldn't pay that much if it was 1965 (when the catalogue was printed). If the prices stayed the same today, or didn't go up by too much, I would. Paying full book price is a last resort for me, I would only do that if I couldn't hunt it out. More fun.
Thanks doug. What is Dr. Haxby's site? If I have any problem using it I will send you an email.

Doctor Haxby Vicky Cents web site is the best source for attributing narrow 59 large cents. He attributed hundreds of die marriages. It is important to read the introduction, especially chapter 3. The site is user friendly -- it has to be for me to use it.

47P7 I felt the same way - at first. I started with the easy ones with obvious die breaks. After doing about a 100 or so it became very easy to use the system. It is a great way to identify and catalogue your 59's. I am thankful to Dr. Haxby for providing this great tool for our use.

Nice find!
See g4, g6 & vg8 as being to low of grades.
Curious to know what grade you put to the coin, 47P7?

Bellmaker, I grade that coin at a VG10, perhaps even a F. I have the advantage of having it in hand. It will soon, together with about 30 other 1859s and a whole bunch of other Vickies , wing its way to ICCS. Decided it is worth it having that opinion when selling.

Will be interested to learn what grade ICCS assigns the coin.
