ty JD, I'm thinking that was around what one of the members thought it would go for. I'm surprised the strong money on the copper, I understand high MS on the big numbers, yet at those prices I can't see much of that going back out onto the market unless of course quick flips and safe reserves in place.

Pacificoin is right, the prices were high, but not all the large cent nuts went home empty handed. :))

Just waking up from the 4am close-out of the Landon sale (4:30am by the time I got home). What a wild auction! Glad I was there to be a part of it. Although prices got stupid, with mainly the same few bidders scooping up the lots, I am very happy with my score and the overall experience. The only things I didn't like was the duration and uncomfortable seating...

As to the five cent lots I did not get the neat bulk lot , I did get the lot of the 39 ten cents and lots of the other dimes. In my opinion they were the bargain of the night.Just got back from tonight's sale Victoria North. A totally different night tonight. The highlight was the 1948 dollar @ $ 44000 and the 1921 Fifty cents @ $ 220,000 but there was no buzz in the room like the Landon Sale. It was much more business like and faster with not many bids per lot, alo went to dealers at just above or at opening bids. Very few surprises.

i bought 2 Landon pieces through ebay today....i had been out of the country for 4 months and didnt even know about the landon release until yesterday!..a lot can happen in a few months when it comes to Canada coin hoards! The buzz is quite contagious and the fact that ICCS has special labelled the Landon collection pieces makes it more much clear about what you are buying than the BOC release grading system....I think I got a great deal on my coins today...it will be interesting to watch the marketplace on ebay and other auctions as these coins come into play...Im sure a lot of collectors will be looking for their own private Landon collection.....

It makes me mad that if you collect coins in the time that Landon guy did that you get to have your last name on the coins when they are graded decades later. In the year 2115 when my collection is showed to someone they wont know who collected it when and why and it will be like any other collection but with this one we all know about it and who collected them because they were collected in a time where they are in very good condition and are kept that way for the rest of the century and things like that. Why would Landon collect coins in his time that were considered "modern", its like me collecting coins from the 1980`s or later.

Not the same Normic.Today you me and tons of others have an interest in coins and have some money to put towards the hobby. Landon was an anomaly in his day especially in Canada when a dollar a day was a wage. There were very few people able to collect coins in his era. Throw a ton of money at a monster collection and we will call it Normic North

It has been a long time since these coins were released. I wonder if anyone has comments these few years after. The influx of all these was expected to have an impact... thoughts? There do seem to be Landon coins that show up occasionally. I would like to catch a few more - they do seem spectacular.

Welcome to the forum.

I was at the Landon auction. It was a feeding frenzy. It was full of mint state cents from 62 to 67. Some of the best stuff was simply outstanding. When the auction happened, I think there was concern that the new quantity of certain dates, 1899 or 1911 for examples, would overwhelm the market and drive prices down. I think the opposite has happened.

Having more mint state cents available has, IMO, gotten more people interested in owning them and increased demand. I see no negative overall impact on prices, and the best Landon coins go for very high prices.
