My sister told me its a batch number in notes in a bundle maybe, she works in the bank but after reading this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_note

8 zero is a star note and those notes that are omitted replaced by star note thats new to me.

I remember my dad showing us star notes when we were wee lads, and telling us they were printed just for movie stars to spend. So if we ever got one, a real movie star once owned it!
(OK, we lived in Southeast Idaho, there was nothing better to entertain with!)

The other day I withdrew $80 from an ATM and a crisp new $20 was a star note and I almost peed myself....Then I got mad because I had to save it, thus needing to withdraw another $20.

I have a $5 and a $20 star...and the ironic part is that my sister found them...she didn't really want them which is good but why can't the coin collectors be the ones who find all the good stuff?

Bryan1315..nice crisp $20 star note...definately a keeper!

I took out a crisp $10 bill from my wallet at the coin club last year to pay my dues and the club treasurer gave it back to me, telling me it was a star note...gave me a note holder too!

Here's the link to a picture of my stars. Sorry I still can't figure out how to get the pictures directly in the post.

I remember my first and (so far) only star note. I was about 7 years old. I had no idea what the star meant. At first I thought it might be counterfeit or invalid, so I was a little suspicious of it. Then I heard about a star note on the radio that said they could be worth thousands. Finally, I discovered that it wasn't worth all that much, and kept it for awhile. Then a few years later I really needed a five dollar bill, so I spent it.

I had never heard of star notes until I joined this forum. Then I went and checked my U.S. notes and found that the only $5 note I had was a star note. I thought that was pretty lucky as I am in Perth Western Australia and have no idea where I even got the note from.

Trigger,
It's even a small head star. I don't see much of those any more.

^ Just recently they changed the style slightly to deter counterfeits. They made the picture in the middle much bigger, and changed the look of the number 5. The older ones like you have are not very common to find in circulation anymore.

Here's my $5 star with a big head. They are also going to add color to the big headed notes sometime here in the near future.
