I used to count money at a local water park and I could have bought out any star notes I passed. I even remember one of my coworkers asking me what it meant when a bill had a star instead of a letter. This was before I started collecting, I told her it was probably the same as a letter. Maybe the mint needed one more figure to do serial numbers with and since they'd run out of letters they started using stars. Report this Post to the Staff

Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 09/10/2007 07:25 am heck guys Don't be hard on yourselves, I have been around collecting most of my life (my great grandfather introduced me to collecting coins at a very young age) and I still had never heard of a "star" note until I started coming to this forum and started reading the US Notes section. Just remember no one can be a expert in everything and there is going to be things they just don't know because they just don't research the items until someone else brings it to their attention, that is why these forums are great, has a little bit of everything for everyone Report this Post to the Staff

josie Valued Member Ireland 498 Posts	Posted 09/10/2007 1:20 pm My sister told me its a batch number in notes in a bundle maybe,she works in the bank but after reading this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_note 8 zero is a star note and those notes that are omitted replaced by star note thats new to me. Juno New Member United States 16 Posts	Posted 09/10/2007 3:09 pm I remember my dad showing us star notes when we were wee lads, and telling us they were printed just for movie stars to spend. So if we ever got one, a real movie star once owned it! (OK, we lived in Southeast Idaho, there was nothing better to entertain with!) The other day I withdrew $80 from an ATM and a crisp new $20 was a star note and I almost peed myself....Then I got mad because I had to save it, thus needing to withdraw another $20. I took out a crisp $10 bill from my wallet at the coin club last year to pay my dues and the club treasurer gave it back to me, telling me it was a star note...gave me a note holder too! Ardon New Member United States 31 Posts	Posted 09/20/2007 6:50 pm I remember my first and (so far) only star note. I was about 7 years old. I had no idea what the star meant. At first I thought it might be counterfeit or invalid, so I was a little suspicious of it. Then I heard about a star note on the radio that said they could be worth thousands. Finally, I discovered that it wasn't worth all that much, and kept it for awhile. Then a few years later I really needed a five dollar bill, so I spent it. Report this Post to the Staff
