At best.....I melted all of my regular AU or MS ..67 dollars and so many other years.... a few years back when the silver and gold jumped up..

I might have held a few back from the pot,...but I wasn't here yet..

Thanks for that @wireman09, great coin, and a nice
grade. I got the 65 part! Can anyone chime in on the
difference between an MS and an SP grade on this type
of coin. What markers should I look for.
Just looking to learn more here. Thanks in advance.
I have put in pics of the SP65 for comparison. I
dropped the bloody thing and had to send it in for
reslab, didn't pay the full $40. Paying it now in re-shipping.

Thanks Don, and a good looking SP65 dollar you have there.
In 1967 there were three different dollars issued, MS, PL, and SP. The SP and PL were issued in sets specially for collectors. The PL came in the pliofilm packaging and the SP were issued in two different special presentation sets. One of the SP sets came with the 1967 $20 gold coin and the other came with a silver medallion. Both the PL and SP dollars have mirror finish and sharp devices as these were issued by the mint with special care as they were for collectors. The SP were of higher quality than the PL.
The MS were business strikes issued in bags and rolls for circulation. This is why it is much harder to find high grade MS dollars in comparison to PL or SP as they were all high grade. Hope this helps explain the differences in the three types of dollars of 1967.

Thanks for that explanation @wireman09.
So can you tell a PL or SP from an MS
by the rim (square or flat as it were)
or any other sort of indicator? I have a
Specimen set, without the Gold, and the rim
looks very square. Is that the only difference,
noting the mirrored fields and frosted devices?

Very easy to tell MS from SP and PL. In a short time you will be able to tell the difference immediately to.
The easiest way to tell the difference between MS and PL, SP, is the finish. The PL and SP are mirror finish and the MS are not. The devices are also much stronger and clearer on the PL,SP, than the MS. Just look at the differences in the fields and hair details about the ear in the two dollars shown. The MS are not mirror and the details are not as strong and clear as on PL, or SP dollars.
It's little harder to tell SP from PL as there very similar. The easiest way to tell them apart is by looking at the queens neck and shoulder. The PL are usually not as sharp struck as the SP in that particular area of the coin. With a little practice you will be able to tell them all apart in no time.

great explanation, as I get more familiar, I'm sure it will

Thanks, it's really nice to have both coins on the same page. I can easily see the strike difference around the ear.

I find the easiest way to differentiate between PL & SP is to look at the edges. On a PL, they are slightly rounded and the ribs do not go right to the edge, similar to a business strike.
A SP is double struck at a slower speed and the edges are square with the ribbing running right to the edge.
SilverDon, look at the edges of one of your NCLT coins.
These are SP edges.

I knew there was something about the square rims,
on the specimen, thanks for that @JimmyD.
Mirror fields, frosted devices and square rims,
see close up.

Thanks @Devlec, it is a nice specimen strike
from a 1967 set. @Slurexe97 has a great picture of specimen
coins edge on in this thread which helps to explain
the reeding going to the edge of a specimen coin
compared to a business strike.
