I like that proof half dollar. The design lent itself well to a coin that size.

If you like that then I would put together a 20 century proof set.

That's a nice project. I just need the Barber quarter and half to finish off mine 20th century set.

With regard to a 20th century proof set, I think I've got everything except for a proof Buffalo nickel, a proof Mercury dime and a proof Standing Liberty quarter. Did they even make proof Standing Liberty quarters?

Oh -- and I suppose I would need a proof Peace dollar if such a thing [legitimately] exists...

Outstanding barryg,

I got to start reading the book Pleasure & Profit 100 Lessons for building and selling a collection of rare coins, by Robert W. Shippee, that's a Christmas gift to myself. I think barryg and few of CCF members here are within the same class range as Mr. Shippee, always glad to see great coins here.

No they didn't make a proof Standing Liberty quarter, my set settled for a MS. (And OK I don't have a Proof Peace dollar either.) There are a few other types that don't come in proof either such as the steel cent.

Ah well, I guess I'll just have to settle for this one, then:

You shouldn't have to settle. I would be willing to take it off your hands so you're not stuck with it.

Well, I just did a little research and discovered that they did, in fact, make proof Peace dollars in 1921 and 1922. With prices in the $20,000 - 30,000 range for PR62 examples of the 1921 coin (and $60,000 for the 1922 coin), however, I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that I will never own a complete 20th century proof set...

I'm still going to keep my eye out for a nice Mercury dime and Barber Nickel proof, however!
